Volkswagen India today launched the all-new Taigun compact SUV in India. The company has said that it has already received more than 12,000 pre-launch bookings for the SUV, and with the prices out, it's now gearing up for festive demand. Speaking to carandbike on the sidelines of the launch of the new VW Taigun, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen India said that the company will ramp up production from October 2021 onwards, and will reach peak production by December 2021.

Commenting on the company production plan for the Taigun Gupta said, "Production will ramp up from October onwards, in September we already have good production coming in, and we will start deliveries from today. From October onwards, because of the festive season, we get into a ramp-up phase and we have a good amount of production available. December is when we'll see the peak of our production coming in, that's how the production plan is laid out right now, so all looking good."

The new Volkswagen Taigun is the first SUV from VW to be built on the MQB-A0 IN platform
The German carmaker commenced manufacturing the Taigun in August 2021, at the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India production facility in Chakan, Pune. While the company has gradually increased production in the last month or so, the company says that as of now the production numbers are nowhere near the amount of bookings the company has received. This means the Taigun is certainly going to command a considerable waiting period.

Talking about deliveries and waiting periods, the VW India Head said, "In terms of serving the customers, it has to be about transparency. The demand is much higher than supply right now from my production plan, so we will have to make sure that the customers are well informed about the timelines for delivery. We will, of course, leave no stone unturned to make sure that the deliveries are as fast as possible. But that is a very clear message to our network that we have to go in the priority order of bookings and then give a very clear timeline to our customers. That we will ensure."

The new Volkswagen Taigun is offered in a total of 7 variants and is priced from Rs. 10.50 lakh to Rs. 17.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The SUV comes with two turbocharged petrol engine options - the 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine. Both come mated to a 6-speed manual, along with an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter for the 1.0-litre motor and an optional 7-speed DSG automatic for the more powerful 1.5-litre model. In India, the SUV will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq.
