Though the components involved in the functioning of an airbag are exceedingly sturdy, some carmakers still assign time limits for their replacement. It is primarily dependent on the seal employed to accommodate the airbag igniter.
b. Cars come equipped with diagnostic functions
Cars with airbags get a diagnostic system called Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). It determines if the airbag(s) is functional. So when you start the car, and if the SRS indicator lights up and doesn't go off in a few seconds/ starts flashing, or doesn't light up at all - there might be an issue.
c. An airbag's deployment speed can reach almost 322Km/h.
d. Seat belts also complement the function of airbags. Airbags are designed in a manner that offers the maximum amount of protection possible when the vehicle's occupants are wearing the seat belts.
e. If the airbag is deployed, only authorised dealerships/ workshops should be entrusted with its replacement.
f. One must never place a rear-facing child seat in the airbag's pathway.
g. It is advised that children below the age of 13 be seated in the rear row, since children are often at risk for serious injuries in case of airbag deployment.
