2023 Triumph Street Triple 765 R Review

The 2023 Triumph Street Triple 765 R will be launched along with the top-spec Street Triple 765 RS in India on March 15, 2023. The R will be the more affordable variant and could well be the higher-selling variant in India.

2023 Triumph Street Triple 765 R Review
Key Highlights
  • 2023 Triumph Street Triple R more affordable variant
  • Engine tuned to make 118.4 bhp on the R variant
  • Fully-adjustable suspension, cornering ABS & traction control

The 2023 Triumph Street Triple 765 range will be offered in two variants, the R and RS. The last-generation S variant of the Street Triple is now history. The new Street Triple 765 range gets comprehensively updated with a thorough update to the engine, new electronics, chassis changes and more. We spent some time riding the new Triumph Street Triple R around a near 200 km route in Spain recently.

The base R variant is expected to be priced at around Rs. 10 lakh (Ex-showroom), going up to Rs. 12 lakh (Ex-showroom) for the top-spec RS variant. Considering the Triumph Street Triple 765 R will be the more affordable, and possibly more popular variant in India, here’s a look at our review of the 2023 Triumph Street Triple R in pictures.

Design:

The 2023 Triumph Street Triple R retains the same silhouette as its sibling the RS, although both variants come in different colour options. The R has a more accessible seat height of 826 mm and a slightly more relaxed steering geometry, compared to the RS. The R also gets road-ready and versatile Continental ContiRoad tyres which offer a sure-footed and planted feel out on the road.

Engine:

The 765 cc engine of the R also benefits from the same Moto2 technology of the new generation Street Triple 765. Shorter gear ratios, higher compression ratio and a host of changes, including new pistons, connecting rods, optimised combustion chambers, new valves and camshafts, all make it closer to the Moto2 engine's specifications and construction. The R has a different map to make it put out 118.4 bhp at 11,500 rpm, compared to the RS's 128.2 bhp at 12,000 rpm.

Street Triple R Gearbox:

The gear ratios have been shortened on the R, like the RS, and it also benefits from a standard up/down quickshifter.

Electronics:

Triumph Street Triple 765 R Instrument cluster

The instrument cluster of the R is more easily readable to our eyes, compared to the rather “busy” full-colour layout of the RS. The R also gets lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, as well as a standard quickshifter. The R misses out on Track mode (of the RS), but gets four riding modes, (Rain, Road, Sport and Rider), with Rider being fully customisable.

Suspension:

The Street Triple R also gets a fully adjustable 41 mm Showa fork up front. The only difference is it gets separate function forks compared to the RS.

Triumph Street Triple 765 R Shocker

At the rear, the Street Triple R gets a fully adjustable Showa piggyback monoshock, compared to the fully-adjustable Ohlins unit of the RS. In stock setting, the R felt plusher and more compliant; easy for everyday riding, even though the RS offers wider customisable adjustability, provided your Triumph technician is up to the task.

Brakes:

The Triumph Street Triple 765 R comes with Brembo M4.32 calipers, and they never feel lacking in bite and progression.

Street Triple 765 R Tyres:

The 2023 Triumph Street Triple 765 R comes shod with Continental ContiRoad tyres, which offers impressive grip and performance on the road. The ContiRoad tyres are expected to offer more life than the stickier and sportier Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tyres of the RS.

Street Triple 765 R Performance:

Triumph Street Triple 765 R Riding 10

With 118.4 bhp on tap, and 80 Nm of peak torque, the new Street Triple 765 R is closer to the outgoing Street Triple RS (121 bhp) in terms of peak performance. Compared to the new-generation RS, the engine is as exciting and dramatic, and never feels out of breath out on the road.

Street Triple 765 R Ride & Handling:

With separate function forks from Showa (fully adjustable) up front and a Showa monoshock (fully adjustable), the Street Triple 765 R feels softly sprung than the RS out on the road. It feels compliant, and feels more at home out on actual roads.

2023 Triumph Street Triple 765 R Verdict:

Triumph Street Triple 765 R Riding 20

The 2023 Triumph Street Triple 765 R could actually turn out to be all the bike you need, if you'll be spending more time on the street, than chasing corners at a racetrack. It will be more affordable, and has everything going for it in terms of kit, with lean-sensitive ABS and traction control, as well as fully adjustable suspension and a standard quickshifter. For anyone looking for an entertaining middleweight naked, the new 2023 Triumph Street Triple R certainly offers a tempting package!
