Detroic Electric, the global electric vehicle maker, is in the final phase of testing its highly anticipated all-electric sportscar namely the SP:01. Built on the Lotus Elise chassis, this lightweight, two-seat, rear-wheel drive, open-top sportscar will be the world's fastest pure-electric production car. Just 999 examples of the SP:01 will be built and sold worldwide through a network of specialist retail partners.
The rear-wheel drive SP:01 features a compact, mid-mounted 201bhp electric motor, a lightweight, purpose-designed battery pack and all-new carbon-fibre bodywork. With the competency of touching 100kmph mark from standstill in just 3.7 seconds, the vehicle has a top-speed of 249kmph. Notable customers for the company included Thomas Edison, Mamie Eisenhower, John D. Rockerfeller Jr. and Clara Ford, the wife of Henry Ford. The brand was revived again in 2008 by Detroit Electric Holding Ltd, Netherlands with an objective to produce modern all-electric cars.
