If you ride an adventure bike, a good pair of adventure tyres can make all the difference between enjoying your ride when the tarmac ends. For the most part though, adventure bikes (or ADVs), are used more on road, and very few riders end up hitting the trails, with climbs and descents, and loose gravel and sandy terrain. This is where a 50/50 bias adventure tyre like the Reise trailR comes in handy, offering the best of both worlds; being equally at home on tarmac as in the rough.
Gujarat-based tyre manufacturer Mahansaria Group has formed a joint venture with European tyre brand Mitas to launch the Reise Moto brand in India.
Reise Moto is a new tyre brand launched in India, which will cater to purpose-built tyres for off-road use, but also to other segments for use on tarmac for a wide range of motorcycles, and even scooters. Our first ride experience of the Reise Moto trailR tyres was though limited to just off-road riding, and we do have some things to talk about the trailR’s performance over some technical terrain, curated at the 19 Degree North Adventure Park near Aamby Valley in Maharashtra.

Reise Moto has introduced a range of tyres for the Indian motorcyclist. The Reise trailR tyres are 50/50 dual-purpose tyres made for ADVs.
The Reise Moto tyre brand has been introduced by Gujarat-based tyre manufacturing company, the Mahansaria Group. The company has entered a joint venture with European tyre brand Mitas, with its roots in the Czech Republic, but with worldwide distribution. Mahansaria Group has over 40 years of experience in manufacturing tyres in India, and specialises in Off-The-Road tyres, purpose-built for agriculture, industrial use, material handling, earth movers and forestry, under the Ascenso brand.
The Reise trailR has been created for the Indian off-road rider. The tyre has a Chevron pattern quite similar to the one on the Mitas E07 tyre.
Mitas, on the other hand, has over 100 years of expertise and the Mahansaria Group has formed a 76:24 joint venture with the Mitas Group to create Reise Moto. Reise will not just provide purpose-built tyres for Indian riders but will also manufacture Mitas branded tyres to be exported to European and North American markets. The trailR series has been created for the Indian off-roader who will also ride on tarmac during everyday use. The sizes we used during our test is 90/90-21 front and 120/90-17 kitted out on Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycles.
We experienced the Reise trailR tyres at an off-road track and trail at the 19 Degree North Adventure Park near Aamby Valley.
The Reise trailR dual-purpose 50/50 bias tyres offer reassurance offer the loose stuff – sand, gravel and rocks. The 50/50 here means these tyres are designed to be equally at home on tarmac and in the dirt. And the folks at Resie Moto say that there will be more off-road bias tyres to be introduced with increasing ratio, but with more off-road capability, like 60/40, 70/30 and so on.
The off-road track had a variety of surfaces, including sand, hard-packed gravel and stone.
The curated trail that Reise Moto prepared for the off-road ride experience isn’t unfamiliar territory to some of us. The track included a circular twisty loop with loose sand and hard-packed gravel, going on to the actual trail, where surfaces varied from sand, gravel, pebbles and loose rocks.

In fact, around the same time of the year, last year, I had the opportunity to test an entry-level adventure bike with a different set of tyres installed on it, across the exact same long loop. And the trail includes a long downhill section over loose rocks and pebbles, and across a rocky mountain stream bed. The pictures don’t do justice to that section, but it’s gnarly and can be intimidating for newbie adventure riders. In all, we pretty much experienced every kind of surface to be encountered on a trail ride, except mud, and very deep sand.
The trailR tyres proved to be impressive, offering grip under all kinds of conditions, including loose sand and gravel.
The first part of the ride experience was through some loose sandy sections and tight-packed sand and gravel. Around the sandy curves, the Reise trailR tyres offer a level of grip and traction which is immediately likeable. I’ve experienced tyres from other brands on similar motorcycles as the Himalayan, but the trailR tyres on the same track made light work of everything we threw at it. And after the first loop around the course, I checked the tyre pressure, which was close to street-level!
Gravel and loose rocks didn't prove to be too much of a problem with the Reise trailR tyres; easy to recommend for newbie adventurers!
Before the second outing, I lowered the air pressure for some added traction, and the results were even more encouraging! Power sliding over loose sand and gravel, even around corners, the trailRs gripped on pretty much all kinds of surfaces we introduced it to. Deep sand is something we didn’t encounter, but even in moderate sand, the front tyre gripped on tight, allowing you to slide the rear ever so slightly! And over gravel and loose pebbles and small rocks, traction and grip is outstanding!
The Resie trailR tyres can certainly make the difference between a struggle off-road and gaining confidence; traits which make it a very impressive off-road product!
For off-road newbies, the trailRs can make the difference between learning to power slide and to tackle loose terrain with confidence. Some of the less off-road experienced riders in my group were initially intimidated by the rocky trail, but they ended up having so much fun, that they went back again to experience it! The trailR tyres definitely had a role to play in boosting the confidence of the riders, including yours truly.

But how are these tyres on tarmac, where most riders will be spending the maximum time on, before hitting the trails, or in some cases, never at all? Sadly, that is something we didn’t get to experience during our first ride experience. Grip over rock, gravel, loose sand and pebbles proved to be quite impressive.
Our off-road experience with the Reise trailR tyres was nothing short of impressive, and for any ADV rider who’d be looking to spend some time riding off-road, the trailR tyres are easy to recommend.
The Reise trailR tyres offer very good grip in all kinds of terrain! The only surfaces we did not experience are mud and deep sand.
