Mercedes has taken a leap this year. Be it new cars, facelifts, you name it and it has been in the news throughout this year. Just a month after bringing out the refreshed E-Class, they say to themselves, hold on, we have a surprise in the form of a very mental E 63 AMG.
There are exterior changes done, but they aren't as mad as you would think. It is still subdued with the single-piece quad headlamps around the big grille with the three-pointed star. Below the headlamps, exists a large mesh grille with a splitter and one look at that and you know you are looking at an AMG. Apart from the reworked bumpers, quad exhausts and the badging, most bits are identical to the regular E-Class.
All the madness though is under the bonnet. The E 63 AMG gets an AMG-tuned, 5,461cc V8 bi-turbo petrol engine. It produces a gut wrenching 550bhp with 720Nm of torque! Wow! All this power is channelled to the rear-wheels through an AMG Speedshift dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. Now the good part about this is that there are four modes to choose from as to how fast you want the transmission to react and shift through the ratios. There is the Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Manual.
Inside the car, there is no dearth of luxury. It has an LCD display for the back-seaters with a multi-CD player, a reversing camera and the Active Park Assist system. It also gets the dynamic seat package.
The E 63 AMG is the most powerful four-door sedan in the country. It is practical, fun and absolutely a delight to drive but it does come at a cost. The car is priced at Rs 1.29 crore and considering that, it is rather heavy on the wallet but then again it is well power-packed. We'll let you decide this time.
