Tata Tigor EV: A Leap Forward in Electric Vehicle Safety

The Tata Tigor EV is a vehicle that not only embraces the future with its electric powertrain but also prioritizes the safety of its occupants. The Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) has recognized the Tigor EV with a commendable 4-star safety rating for both adult and child occupants under their ‘Safer Cars For India’ campaign.

The Ratings Explained

With a score of 12 out of a maximum of 17 for adult occupant protection and an improved score of 37.24 out of 49 for child occupant protection, the Tigor EV demonstrates a significant leap in ensuring passenger safety over its internal combustion engine counterpart. These scores highlight Tata’s dedication to not only meeting but surpassing safety expectations with their electric vehicle lineup.

Adult and Child Occupant Protection

The Tata Tigor EV, through rigorous testing, has shown notable protection levels. The adult driver’s head received a ‘good’ protection rating, while the front passenger’s head received an ‘adequate’ rating. Neck protection for both front occupants was rated ‘good’, although chest protection varied from ‘adequate’ to ‘good’. The knees of both driver and passenger were noted as ‘marginal’ in terms of safety due to potential dashboard structures impact, while tibia protection ranged from ‘adequate’ to ‘good’.

Safety Assist Technologies

- Airbags: Essential in providing cushioning and reducing injury risk during impacts.

- ABS: Prevents wheel lockup during emergency braking for better control.

- Hill Assist: Aids in preventing rollback on slopes, enhancing safety on inclines.

- Engine Immobilizer: Prevents unauthorized engine start, adding a layer of security.

Additional Safety Features

FeatureDescription
Child Safety LockPrevents children from accidentally opening doors.
Power Door LockEnables the driver to lock and unlock vehicle doors with ease.
Seat Belt with Pretensioners, Load Limiters and Crash-Locking TongueEnhances restraint performance in a crash.

In Summary

While the Tata Tigor EV sets a new standard in the electric vehicle segment with a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating, it also reveals areas for potential enhancement. The absence of ISOFIX anchors, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and side-impact protection are opportunities for future upgrades. Despite these, Tata’s continued improvement across its vehicle range, including the Tigor EV, aligns with Global NCAP’s mission of democratizing vehicle safety. The Tigor EV, with its Ziptron technology and an array of safety features, shows Tata’s commitment to the twin goals of safety and sustainability, trailblazing a path for others in the Indian market to follow.

Tata Motors is the manufacturer of an electric vehicle known as the Tata Tigor EV. It was first introduced to the Indian market in January of 2017. The vehicle has a maximum speed of 135 kilometres per hour and a range of 212 kilometres on a single charge. There are two distinct variations of it available: the Standard variation and the Long-Range variation.

The Tata Tigor EV is a compact sedan that was developed with the Indian market in mind as the primary user base. The inside and exterior of the vehicle both have a highly contemporary look and feel, and the overall design is quite comparable to that of the Tata Tiago. However, the Tigor EV may be distinguished from its sister by several nuances that have been included in its design. For example, the Tigor EV has a grille that is a little bit different, and the headlamps also have a different form. In addition to this, the automobile boasts distinctive alloy wheels, which make it stand out from the crowd.

The Tata Tigor electric vehicle has a solid performance overall. It has a range of around 110 kilometres when fully charged, which is more than sufficient for the majority of people's journeys each day. Even though it takes approximately 5 to 6 hours to fully charge the battery, it is still doable despite the fact that it is not the quickest car to charge up.
Even on extended drives, the car drives smoothly and provides a comfortable ride for the driver. When travelling at high speeds, the sole drawback is that the inside can get rather loud. This is especially noticeable when changing lanes. Aside from that, the Tata Tigor EV is an excellent choice for individuals who are searching for an electric vehicle that will not blow their budget.

The Tata Tigor EV has a decent driving range for an electric vehicle. On a single charge, it has the potential to go for up to 213 kilometres. The firm has also made the announcement that it will soon be releasing a fast charger, which will contribute to the reduction of the amount of time required for charging.

When it comes to electric vehicles, the driving experience can vary greatly depending on the model. However, we can say that driving the Tata Tigor EV is a very smooth and enjoyable experience. The car is extremely quiet, so you won't hear any engine noise while you're driving. Additionally, the acceleration is instant and linear, so you won't feel any jerks or jolts as you're accelerating. We think that anyone would enjoy driving this car, whether they're used to driving gasoline-powered cars or not.

Pros

  • Makes Evs More Accessible
  • Well-Loaded On Features
  • Great City Car With Little To Fault

Cons

  • Real-World Range Under 200 Km
  • Substantially More Expensive Than Ice Tigor
  • Loses Breath After 100 Kmph

Verdict

The Tigor EV is now a much-improved car with its longer range, better warranty and all the tech it offers. Low running cost is the trump card of cars like the Tigor EV. In times of rising fuel prices, cars like these make a lot of sense. Depending on how much you drive you can break even in a couple of years. And of course, you're playing your part in burning lesser fossil fuels and keeping our planet greener for much longer.
