The new-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is finally here and the first examples of the automaker's flagship sedan are indeed special. The 2021 S-Class comes to India as a Completely Built Unit and Mercedes-Benz is bringing the launch edition that will be limited to just 150 examples. In fact, at the virtual launch, Martin Schwenk, Managing Director and CEO - Mercedes-Benz India revealed that about 50 per cent of the units allocated for India this year have already been booked. Mercedes will introduce the locally assembled S-Class at a later date.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class AMG Line brings sporty elements like the AMG apron and chrome splitter up front
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class launch edition comes to India in the exclusive AMG Line. This is for the first time that Mercedes is introducing AMG Line on the S-Class in India. This variant brings several sporty elements to the sedan including an AMG front apron in an A-wing design with large air intakes and fins. There's also a chrome-finished front splitter. The sedan also gets an AMG apron at the rear with the diffuser finished in chrome. Other visible elements include chrome exhaust tips, side sill panels with chrome inserts and 20-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels painted in high-gloss black with a high-sheen finish.
The cabin gets a multi-function sports steering wheel wrapped up in Nappa leather with a flat bottom and a perforated grip area. It also gets capacitive Touch Control buttons. The AMG Line also adds high-gloss black poplar wood trim, stainless steel AMG pedals with rubber studs and AMG velour floor mats.

The feature list remains the same and is quite comprehensive including the 12.3-inch instrument panel, 12.8-inch Smart OLED screen with the MBUX infotainment system, Mercedes Me Connected car technology, voice recognition, and lots more. The model gets 27 fewer knobs and dials than its predecessor thanks to all the screens in the cabin.

India gets the long-wheelbase S-Class V223 that is longer by 34 mm, wider by 51 mm and taller by 12 mm. The wheelbase has also been extended by 50 mm, while the front track by 35 mm and the rear track has been extended by 51 mm over the older generation version. This translated to more legroom, elbow room and headroom in the rear, while the seats come with reclining and massage functions.

The new-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class also comes with E-Active Body Control system that analyses the roads and will adjust the suspension at a rate of thousand times per second. The model also gets a rear steering wheel with a movement An added bonus is the rear-wheel steering movement of 4.5 degrees that helps with better handling, especially in tight spaces. Engine options include the 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines under the bonnet.
The new-generation S-Class Launch Edition will be restricted to being a CBU. The model will be locally assembled at a later stage at the company's Chakan facility. Mercedes-Benz India will also introduce the new-gen Maybach S-Class in India sometime later this year.
