2021 Triumph Speed Twin: 5 Things To Know
Key Highlights
  • Updated Speed Twin gets more performance, higher-spec components
  • 1,200 cc engine makes 99 bhp at 7,250 rpm, 112 Nm at 4,250 rpm
  • Altered steering gemetry, new suspension, higher-spec brakes

Triumph Motorcycles has unveiled the updated 2021 Triumph Speed Twin which now gets engine upgrades, to meet the latest Euro 5 emission standards, but now gets more performance, as well as updates to the chassis and electronics suite. And yes, there are some minor cosmetic changes too, to give it the 'new and improved' appeal. So, the new Speed Twin gets new brakes, suspension and wheels, as well as new tyres, and the updates do justify the 'new' tag. We take a close look at what all have changed, and how much it's likely to cost in India.

1. Engine

The 2021 Speed Twin has the same Bonneville 1,200 cc 'high power' engine, but it's been updated to add 3 bhp more peak power, as well as reduce inertia by 17 per cent. New crankshaft and alternator, new balancer shaft, new cam profile, revised ports, and high compression pistons have brought these updates on. The result, Triumph says, is a more responsive engine, with more mid-range power and torque. In fact, the redline has added 500 rpm more, and peak torque is now achieved 500 rpm lower. The 1,200 cc parallel-twin engine now makes 99 bhp at 7,250 rpm and 112 Nm of peak torque at 4,250 rpm.

To complement the added performance, the suspension has now been changed, and comes with 43 mm Marzocchi forks with cartridge damping, and 120 mm travel. At the rear are twin shocks with adjustable preload, and also with 120 mm travel. Braking performance is also improved with new higher specification Brembo four-piston M50 radial monobloc calipers gripping twin 320 mm discs. At the rear wheel is a Nissin two-piston caliper with 220 mm disc.

5. Pricing & Availability

The 2021 Triumph Speed Twin will be launched in India in the next couple of months, depending on logistical constraints brought on by the ongoing second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The outgoing Speed Twin was priced at Rs. 9.46 lakh (Ex-showroom) in India, and we expect Triumph Motorcycles to price the updated Speed Twin very competitively, maybe at just under, or around Rs. 10 lakh (Ex-showroom). For 2021, the Triumph Speed Twin will be available in three paint schemes, the new Red Hopper scheme, Matt Storm Grey with subtle yellow accents, or in Jet Black.
