BMW Motorrad has announced the 2022 BMW R 18 cruiser, and the bike gets very few changes, mostly cosmetic and a host of new colour options to give it fresh appeal. The main changes are some new colour choices, additional accessory options and dropping the First Edition trim from the R 18 series. The BMW R 18 First Edition came with white pinstripes, more chrome and special First Edition badging, along with an assortment of BMW-branded accessories. On the mechanical side of things, no changes are expected on the 2022 model.

2022 BMW R 18 feature new colour options
The new colour options on the 2022 BMW R 18 and R 18 Classic models include Mars Red Metallic, Manhattan Metallic Matt, and the Option 719 Galaxy Dust Metallic/Titanium Silver 2 Metallic. Additional options include metallic black drivetrain and reverse assistance upgrades. The Option 719 Galaxy Dust Metallic/Titanium Silver 2 colour shade can actually change colour depending on existing light. The Galaxy Dust Metallic finish can change from violet to turquoise blue, while the Titanium Silver 2 Metallic Mirror surface covers the fuel tank, surrounded by classic white pinstripes.

The Option 719 parts, which started out as BMW Motorrad's internal code for unassigned options, are now referred to up-spec factory accessories. These include the Option 719 seat and Option 719 wheel options. There's also an entire Option 719 Design Package Aero which includes different cylinder head and front covers as well as intake snorkels finished in a brushed finish.

The 1,802 cc boxer twin engine remains unchanged and additional chrome finishes are available as options
Mechanically, there are no changes to the 2022 BMW R 18, and the bike continues to be powered by the largest boxer twin engine ever manufactured by BMW Motorrad. The 1,802 cc flat twin makes 90 bhp at 4,750 rpm, with 158 Nm of peak torque at 3,000 rpm. More than 120 Nm of the torque is available from 2,000 rpm all the way to 4,000 rpm. The 2022 BMW R 18 range is expected to be launched later this year, and prices and availability are yet to be announced.
