Volkswagen is already in its second innings in our market with its India 2.0 strategy where a greater impetus is on reviving the German brand's product portfolio in India. The localised MQB AO IN platform of course has a crucial role to play and so does the SUV segment which is at the forefront. The Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV has garnered strong response from Indian customers with the company already crossing over 20,000 bookings and the carmaker is expecting good traction even for the Tiguan in the premium mid-size SUV space. In fact, the company is gearing up to launch a compact sedan too in India very soon which is likely to be an all-new successor to the Vento. Riding on the back of these new models, Volkswagen India is expecting to capture a market share of 2 per cent by the end of 2022.

Speaking to Siddharth Vinayak Patankar, Editor-In-Chief, carandbike on the latest Freewheeling With SVP webisode, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, said, "Typically, my expectation would be to come close to 2 per cent market share by 2022 that will be in-line with our goal of being at 3 per cent by 2025. It would help us a long way and I think we have the product portfolio now to achieve that. We are at the heart of the mid-size SUV segment with a well-accepted product like the Taigun. And there is lot for things happening on the brand side and on the product side and of course we have a premium appeal of the Tiguan."
Volkswagen received over 500 bookings for the Tiguan.
As already mentioned, the company received around 20,000 bookings for the Taigun since its launch out of which 5,000 bookings have come in January 2022 itself. The company is also planning to ramp up production and manufacture around 3,500 units of the Taigun per month in order to ensure speedy delivery. The company has also received 500 bookings for the recently launched Tiguan so far and plans to sell around 1800 units in 2022.
