The Red Dot Awards honour the best of design and innovation in a variety of categories. This year, Hyundai won big at the Red Dot awards, with the Nexo fuel cell vehicle and the Kona SUV winning in their respective categories. The Hyundai Kona won the award for outstanding design and innovation in the SUV/off-road vehicles category while the Hyundai Nexo won the award for excellence in its sub-category. The Red Dot awards focus on the innovation, functionality, durability and the overall practicality of the product in question. This is the fifth consecutive year that Hyundai has won a Red Dot Award and till date, the company has been a recipient of the Red Dot award a total of 10 times. This goes on to show the hard work that Hyundai has put with regards to the complete evolution of its design language.

The Hyundai Nexo is the company's second-generation fuel cell electric vehicle and was also showcased in India at the Indo-Korea business summit a couple of months ago and it recently went on sale in Korea as well. The Nexo's fuel cell drivetrain makes a total of 161 bhp of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The Nexo has a claimed top speed of 177 kmph and does the 0-100 kmph sprint in 9.2 seconds.

The Kona, on the other hand, is a sub-compact SUV which was showcased at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. With a quirky design and a fresh, bold look, the Kona was developed specifically for the US and European markets, Hyundai could just launch the Kona in India. If it does, the Kona will go up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.
