Keeway Motors, a part of the Zhejiang Qianjiang Motorcycle Group, is coming to India, all the way from Hungary on May 17, 2022, possibly with a new maxi-scooter and a 500 cc cruiser motorcycle for the Indian market. The Chinese-Hungarian two-wheeler maker arrives on our shores as a sister company to the Benelli Group, also owned by the same parent company, and will be helmed by Vikas Jhabakh, MD at Benelli India. Keeway Motors also exports its two-wheelers to a few other Asian countries such as Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, and the Philippines to name a few.

Traditionally, Keeway Motors deals in two-wheelers under the 250 cc category, however, the company recently announced its intention to develop motorcycles with a higher displacement, specifically in the 500 cc segment. It is reported that the upcoming middle-weight bike would be based on the Benelli 502C, with tweaks to its output and a suspension to differentiate it from its sibling. The company would also share components with Benelli, which already has a well-established network in the country, keeping the price in check. We expect the new 500 cc motorcycle from Keeway to be priced similarly to the Benelli 502C, at about Rs. 5 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Then there would be a 270 cc maxi-scooter based on the Keeway GT270 but would likely carry a different name for the Indian market.

To put things into perspective, the maxi-scooter from Keeway doesn't have a rival per se in the Indian market, but offers more power than the Yamaha Aerox 155, and would carry a lower price tag than the BMW C400 GT. The Keeway 270 cc maxi-scooter is likely come with a 278.2 cc, Piaggio-sourced liquid-cooled engine that is good enough to produce 19 bhp @6,500 rpm and 22.5 Nm @6,000 rpm, coupled to a CVT unit. It would sit on KYB upright fork with a travel of 35 mm, while the rear sits on a KYB dual shock set-up with braking handled by J. Juan calipers with 240 mm discs, and ABS in place.
