The new Tata Safari is loaded on the feature front, which makes it a close rival on most parameters
Both the XUV and Safari names have been rivals for years now, and in the completely new avatars, both SUVs have grown by a massive leap as brand flagships. While the XUV700 gets a petrol engine and a five-seater option, the Safari misses out on both completely. So, considering only the seven-seater variants of both models, it's the Tata Safari that gets the upper hand with a lower asking price of Rs. 14.99 lakh. Meanwhile, the XUV700 diesel seven-seater range starts from Rs. 16.19 lakh, which is about Rs. 1.2 lakh more expensive. The XUV though holds the advantage with the top-end variant that's priced at Rs. 21.09 lakh for the AWD version, while the top-spec Safari AT is priced at Rs. 22.14 lakh. Do note the Luxury Pack on the XUV700 with all the creature comforts comes at a premium of Rs 1.8 lakh and will set you back by Rs. 23.39 lakh (ex-showroom).
With plenty of trim options, seating choices as well as engine-gearbox combinations, and the Hyundai Alcazar remains smartly priced in the segment
The Hyundai Alcazar may be smaller in proportions over its rivals but it makes up for it with its spacious cabin and a tonne of features. The XUV700 holds the advantage with lower-priced seven-seater petrol variants starting at Rs. 15.59 lakh, whereas the Alcazar petrol range starts at Rs. 16.30 lakh. Meanwhile, the Alcazar diesel line-up starts from Rs. 16.53 lakh, which is about Rs. 34,000 more than the XUV700. The Alcazar also emerges as more expensive on the top-spec diesel AT variant that retails at Rs. 20.15 lakh, whereas the XUV700 AX7 AT (without AWD) is priced at a lower Rs. 19.79 lakh.
The MG Hector Plus is priced more attractively on the lower variants, which gives it an advantage over the XUV700
The MG Hector Plus is priced from Rs. 13.97 lakh for the petrol variants, which makes it substantially cheaper than the XUV700 AX5 7-seater that is priced at Rs. 15.59 lakh. The XUV700 also holds the advantage when it comes to the top-end petrol AT with the AX7 variant priced at Rs. 19.19 lakh, whereas the top-spec Hector Plus petrol AT is priced at Rs. 19.50 lakh. MG offers the Hector Plus diesel version with only the manual transmission priced between Rs. 15.39 lakh and Rs. 19.50 lakh. While the entry-level variant undercuts the XUV700, Mahindra has priced at the top-end manual more competitively at Rs. 18.19 lakh.
The Jeep Compass is priced at a substantial premium over the XUV700
A five-seater offering that's as loaded as the seven-seater options, the Jeep Compass brings its good looks and fun-to-drive quotient to the fore in the segment. The petrol range starts from Rs. 17.19 lakh, going up to Rs. 25.64 lakh, while the diesel line-up is priced from Rs. 18.89 lakh, going all the way up to Rs. 28.64 lakh. The American mid-size SUV sure comes at a premium over the XUV700.
