Maruti Suzuki India has been on a launching spree of late, with the most recent one being the Ciaz - the company's mid-sized sedan. Very soon, we'll also have the updated Alto K10, Swift and Swift Dzire in the Indian market. While the three aforementioned cars will be the facelifted models of the company's existing products, Maruti will also launch a couple of all-new products next year.
Of all the new products that the Indo-Japanese carmaker is planning to bring in, the SX4 S-Cross will be the first that is already on sale in Europe. Interestingly, the company has started testing the vehicle in India and one such test mule has been caught by our good friend, Udit Jain on National Highway 8. He managed to click the vehicle from all angles, save for the interiors since the car was moving.
The S-Cross is a crossover based on the SX4 hatchback, that never came to India. However, in some European markets, the hatchback was replaced by the crossover. That said, India will only get the crossover model albeit with some design and mechanical changes.
Unlike the global model's three-piece horizontal slat grille, the one on-test here has only two slats or probably the third one isn't visible. The test mule also misses out on roof rails but the production version will have those in black. If we look at the overall dimensions, the Indian version looks smaller in size as compared to its European counterpart.
Though we don't have interior images of the car, the S-Cross is likely to share its cabin with the Swift. So expect a similar looking dash, but in dual-shade since it is in demand these days.
Furthermore, the Indian version of the crossover is expected to be powered by a different set of engines. While the European version is sold with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel motors, the India-bound S-Cross might employ the 1.3-litre multijet diesel (92bhp) and 1.4-litre petrol (94bhp) units.
