New spy photos of a heavily camouflaged test mule of the Maruti Suzuki Alto have surfaced online. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has planned several new launches for 2022, including the Vitara Brezza and Baleno, refreshed XL6, and the all-new Alto will be joining the list of upcoming new products. The test mule was spotted testing in the Delhi-NCR area, however, it's still heavily covered in camouflage, so there is not much that we can talk about the design or styling. The all-new Alto is likely to be launched sometime in the second half of 2022.
The new spy pictures give us a look at the front and rear sections of the upcoming entry-level hatchback. Judging by the silhouette, the car looks a bit taller than the current model. The car will come with a new front-end design, bigger headlights, a new front bumper, squarish taillights, a new sculpted rear bumper, and more. We also get to see steel wheels on this test mule, but the production model will get wheel covers, however, we do not expect to see alloy wheels.

The new-generation Alto is likely to be based on the Suzuki's Heartect platform that also underpins the carmaker's other models like the S-Presso. The entry-level hatchback is expected to come with smarter creature comforts and improved safety features. The top-end trim might also get a touchscreen display with the Smartplay studio infotainment system.
As for mechanicals, the current version of the Alto employs an 800 cc, three-cylinder motor that makes 41 bhp and 60 Nm of peak torque. The carmaker could also offer a 1.0-litre version, possibly a derivative of the motor seen on the recently launched new-generation Celerio hatchback. The entry-level car also comes as a CNG option, and Maruti Suzuki is likely to remain the same. Transmission options could include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT unit.
