Apparently, the organisers of the show had carried out a survey among its social media followers asking which performance car would be identified as the most iconic model in Japanese car culture. The survey result showed Nissan Skyline as the clear winner with Toyota Supra and Subaru Impreza taking the second and third spot respectively in the Japanese Icons survey.
"The Nissan Skyline is one of the cars that really kicked off the Japanese tuning craze in the UK, so it's no surprise to see that it's been named as the most iconic Japanese performance car of all time. Japfest is a real celebration of the culture that it, in part, created, and we look forward to celebrating its success this year among the event's festival atmosphere," said Katherine Chappell, Event Manager, Japfest 2016.
Nissan Skyline has had an impressive heritage beyond the gaming circuit as well. Initially built by the Prince Motor Company, the car first came into production back in 1955. A little over a decade later the company merged with Nissan, which has been building the car ever since. The Skyline was developed through multiple generations, each one faster and more advanced than its predecessor which now comes with the GT-R tag. Ever since, the name 'Skyline' has become synonymous with Japanese performance tuning in the UK and beyond.
