The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 brings more power to the humble Alto and is quite the city slicker. It's compact in size, easy on eyes, and now comes with an automatic transmission that certainly flies. The Alto K10 was in great demand in the new car market before being replaced by the S-Presso in 2020. But it continues to pull its weight in the used car space. The model holds its value rather well and the frugal nature of the hatchback makes it a great first car or even a second car in the family. 1. The second generation Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 makes for an ideal choice in the city. The tallboy stance makes for a roomy cabin, while the K10 gets a distinctly different design over the Alto 800, which works for those who do not want a bare bones version of the car.
2. The Alto K10 is fairly modern on the insides with piano black and silver accents, an integrated music system with AUX and USB connectivity, internally adjustable ORVMs, a tachometer and front power windows. However, the earlier examples of the Alto K10 lacked features on the safety front, while the more recent versions did get the driver-side airbag as standard.
3. The 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine remains one of the most efficient and reliable units on sale. It's also quite efficient offering 24.07 kmpl (ARAI certified). However, few examples of this engine is prone to misfire due to a clogged throttle body. Do check if the engine misfires by checking for a drop in power when on the move. At the same time, also look for rattling plastics on the dashboard, defective door latch, and worn-out switches that are common issues with the Alto K10.
4. The AMT versions of the Alto K10 are also reliable units but some owners have complained about the gear shifting to neutral on its own. Do check for the transmission warning light on the instrument console or this issue occurring with the vehicle when you take a test drive. It may need an extensive repair that can turn out to be expensive and time consuming.
5. The second generation Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 remains a great buy and the no-nonsense nature of the car is what makes it so impressive. Finding pre-owned examples from 2014 will see an asking price of Rs. 3.5 lakh, while the AMT versions can be had for just under Rs. 4 lakh. Several Alto K10s have done a little over 20,000 km on the odometer, which means there's plenty of life to extract from the package.
