Japanese automaker Honda is all set to unveil the production version of its electric-powered e:prototype SUV at the Wuhan Motor Show 2021. It will be the first Honda-brand electric vehicle (EV) designed specifically for the Chinese market. The SUV made its world debut at the 2021 Auto Shanghai in April this year. The mass-production model based on the Honda e:prototype is slated to go on sale in 2022, and will be manufactured at the brand's Dongfeng facility. Codenamed 3BS, the prototype model takes its design inspiration from the HR-V.

The Honda e:prototype looks similar to the HR-V eHEV

In China, the automaker will also introduce 10 Honda-brand electric models within five years, and the SUV e:prototype will be the first of the lot. The design of the prototype model is a bit more futuristic and looks very similar to the electric version of the HR-V. We expect the production version model to look pretty similar to the concept with a few changes. We don't expect the super-slim side mirrors and inner-headlight design to make it to the production version.

The all-electric SUV will also feature the brand's third-generation Honda CONNECT that offers several advanced functions such as everyday connectivity, smartphone link and OTA updates based on a highly sophisticated voice-recognition interface. The SUV will also come equipped with omnidirectional ADAS, the next-generation Honda SENSING safety and driver-assistive system with improved recognition, prediction and decision-making performance. Honda has remained coy about the powertrain that the e:prototype SUV gets, but we'll know more about it very soon.
