Is Suzuki Gixxer SF better than Bajaj Pulsar AS150?
Be it Honda or Bajaj or Yahama or Suzuki, the 150 ccs segment had witnessed a plethora of action since last year. Bike lovers often ask us which of the above-mentioned two bikes should be parked in their garage? Well, our experts concluded Suzuki Gixxer SF to be better than Bajaj Pulsar AS 150, citing various reasons as mentioned below:-
- Design and Features: With its full fairing, the Gixxer SF is the most handsome bike with its creases, scoops, and muscular tank that flows well with the overall design. However, the Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 is equipped with a quarter fairing. Also, the Suzuki Gixxer SF employs an all-digital instrument cluster whereas the Pulsar AS 150 has a semi-digital console.
- Engine and Performance: The Pulsar AS 150 houses the most powerful air-cooled 150 ccs motor, equipped with 4-valves that push out 17 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 13 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. Although the Suzuki Gixxer SF cannot match the grunt of the Pulsar AS 150, Suzuki's engine refinement and motor feels are far better engineered than that of Bajaj.
- Ride, Handling, and Braking: The upright riding posture of Suzuki Gixxer gives it a lower ranking compared to Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 if we go for a sporty look. However, it is highly comfortable for long distances. At the same time the handling dynamics, communicative chassis, telescopic fork, and mono-shock unit suspension duties, makes Gixxer SF an absolute delight.
- Fuel efficiency and Pricing: The Pulsar AS 150 returned us an overall figure of 52 kmpl while the Suzuki Gixxer ran 47 km on a litre of fuel. Also, the pricing of Pulsar is less than Suzuki. However, one cannot just ignore the built quality and Japanese technology that Suzuki employs, making their products far more durable.
-
Which model of Suzuki Gixxer SF is best?
The Moto GP version is the best Suzuki Gixxer SF variant which is oil-cooled and has a single cylinder. However, it is priced at an upper range of Rs.1.75L to Rs.1.8L. The lower-priced variants are no less and give absolutely the same kind of performance with small technical specification changes. Suzuki has left no stone unturned to provide a holistic blend of modern features and sporty design in the different variants of Gixxer SF. So if you are looking for a powerful and durable bike on a limited budget, you can go for the 150 ccs variant which costs almost Rs.50,000 less. However, if budget is not an issue, we would strongly recommend the 250 ccs variant.

Suzuki Gixxer SF vs Competition
The Suzuki Gixxer SF is the latest offering by the Japanese two-wheeler company and also the cheapest full faired motorcycle on sale in the country. In this section, we will compare its specifications with the other well-known bikes in India - namely Yamaha Fazer FI, Bajaj Pulsar AS 150, and Hero Karizma R.
- The Suzuki Gixxer SF is the only motorcycle with a single headlamp unit while all other sports bikes house a twin headlamp design. But, it is also the only motorcycle that is equipped with a full fairing bodywork, a gear shift indicator, and a gear position indicator. Other motorcycles are equipped with quarter-fairing bodywork.
- The Suzuki Gixxer SF and the Yamaha Fazer FI employ an all-digital instrument console while the other two have a part-analogue-part-digital instrument cluster.
- All four motorcycles sport an LED headlight and tail lamp, while only the Hero Karizma R gets LED position lamps. Additional equipment on the Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 includes backlit switchgear and projector headlamp.
- Except for Yamaha Fazer FI (which has a traditional flat and wide single-piece handlebar), all the three other motorcycles feature clip-on handlebars.
- The Suzuki Gixxer SF has an air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 13.4 bhp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The Yamaha Fazer FI has the least powerful motor with 13.1 bhp power at 8,000 rpm and 12.8 Nm torque at 6,000 rpm. The Hero Karizma R has air-cooled power plant pumps delivering 19.2 bhp power at 7,500 rpm and 19.3 Nm torque at 6,000 rpm. The Pulsar AS 150 also houses a powerful air-cooled 150 ccs motor, equipped with 4-valves that push out 17 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 13 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. All the above motorcycles transmit power to the rear-wheel via a 5-speed constant gearbox.
- The suspension duties on Suzuki Gixxer SF and Yamaha Fazer FI are handled by telescopic front forks and a mono-shock setup at the rear. The other two motorcycles adopt more conventional telescopic front forks and twin hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear.
- Talking about the chassis, Suzuki Gixxer SF, Hero Karizma R, and Yamaha Fazer FI employ a diamond-type frame. The Pulsar AS 150 adopts a perimeter frame chassis. The wheelbase for Gixxer and Fazer is 1330 mm, for Pulsar it is 1350 mm and for Karizma, it is 1355 mm.
- All four motorcycles house disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The braking performance of the Yamaha Fazer FI is better than Suzuki Gixxer SF which is a bit jerky. The brake lever on the Pulsar AS150 is a bit spongy.
- The Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 and the Hero Karizma R have an overall fuel efficiency of 35 to 40 kmpl. Yamaha has equipped the Fazer FI with fuel injection and Blue Core tech to hike its fuel efficiency to around 44 kmpl. Suzuki has also added the SEP tech that reduces friction to improve combustion efficiency and hike the mileage figures to be around 48 kmpl.
- Talking about the price, the new Suzuki Gixxer SF 2019 model is priced the most at Rs. 1.25 lakh while the others are being sold at a range of Rs.85,000 to Rs.95,000. However, you cannot just ignore the better-engineered and more defined Japanese technology of Suzuki and Yamaha.
