About Suzuki Gixxer SF

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited has introduced an updated version of the Suzuki Gixxer SF. For 2019, the Gixxer SF gets updated styling, with the new design language which has been incorporated in the 2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, priced at Rs.1,24,970 in India.

Suzuki’s Gixxer SF is a small full-faired offering for India which has received a major overhaul in the year 2019. It had earlier proposed a curvy design that was ditched for a sleeker styling that closely resembles the Gixxer SF 250. The fairing is sharper and the motorcycle now features a full LED headlamp and tail lamp unit, updated digital instrument console, split seats, and clip-on handlebars. The new 155 ccs, Suzuki Gixxer SF is available in two new colours, Glass Sparkle Black and a dual-tone Metallic Sonic Silver with Glass Sparkle Black highlights.

The Gixxer SF is powered with 155 ccs, single-cylinder, SOHC, two-valve, air-cooled, and fuel-injected engine which puts out 13.4 bhp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to the same five-speed gearbox. However, the motor has been tweaked to comply with BS6 emission norms which have resulted in a drop in its performance over the BS4 model. The motorcycle weighs 146 kg and has a fuel capacity of 12 litres. The overall length, width, height, and seat height have decreased, but the new model has a slightly longer wheelbase, which has increased by 10 mm. The ergonomics have become sportier, thanks to the new clip-on. The bike retains the same suspension setup of telescopic forks upfront and mono-shock at the rear. Braking is done by disc brakes at both ends and is equipped with single-channel ABS.

All in all, this bike is an absolute delight for those who are looking out for a sports bike for Rs.1,50,000.

Suzuki Gixxer SF Expert Review

Suzuki Gixxer SF

The Suzuki Gixxer SF was launched as a potent rival to the Yamaha FZ and it has been revamped thereafter. The bike is quite popular in the Indian market.

How’s the design?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF comes with an attractive design template. The bike looks chunky and gets an LED headlamp. The tail lamps also look simpler in comparison. The design of the tank is a plus point with certain dynamism to it. T/he split fairing is also enticing enough, though the halogen turn indicators jar with the design. There is a new and bigger sticker along with the dual-pod exhaust with chrome touches. The design is quite nice overall.

How is the performance?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF comes with a 155 cc engine that makes 13.6 PS and 13.8 Nm of maximum torque. The delivery of power is linear and smooth enough with low-end power and a chunky mid-range. The top-range is not too bad either. The engine comes with sporty throttle responses and the note of the exhaust feels silent and calm. The engine stays smooth until you touch the redline where it does get a little hassled with more vibrations coming into the picture. The Suzuki Gixxer SF comes with a five-speed gearbox although this is not as smooth-shifting as you would wish for. The bike also offers good fuel economy overall. It can take speeds up to 80 kmph without any hassles.

How does the Suzuki Gixxer SF ride?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF rides reasonably well with its front telescopic forks and the monoshock that is adjustable. It offers good stability and control for the rider while taking care of bad roads nicely. Lane switching is not difficult and the bike also corners quite well. The handlebar feedback levels are decent and the brakes have good power as well with progressive feedback. There is standard single-channel ABS and ground clearance stands at 165 mm.

How comfortable is the Suzuki Gixxer SF?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF comes with a sporty and neat posture for seating. There is 795 mm of seat height while the clip-on handlebars have a raised stance for more comfort. The split-seating is comfortable with good cushioning although the pillion seat is on the harder side. The comfort levels are decent overall.

How’s the Tech?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF comes with a LCD digital instrument console with the service reminder, gear position indicator and twin-trip meters. The mileage indicator is missing and there are SET and SEL buttons for browsing and resets for the trip meters.

How’s the mileage of the Suzuki Gixxer SF?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF offers mileage between 45-50 kmpl.

Is the Suzuki Gixxer SF good value for money?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF offers better value for money with good performance and stability along with superior handling. There is a feel more like a bigger motorcycle while the bike comes at a reasonable price point as well. Yes, dual-channel ABS could have been included and the pillion seat lacks comfort.

How is the after sales service?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF has service intervals at 750 km, 3,500 km, 7,500 km, and 11,500 km.

Which motorbikes compete in this segment?

The Suzuki Gixxer SF competes with the Yamaha Fazer 25 and the Honda CBR250R ABS model. Another rival is the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200. The Suzuki Gixxer SF outstrips the Yamaha on power figures and the Honda has similar figures although it does feel outdated currently. The RS200 offers similar power but lower torque. These factors make the Suzuki Gixxer SF a value buy in its segment.

Verdict (Value for Money)

The Suzuki Gixxer SF offers a competitive price point and a stylish design along with decent fuel economy and performance. Yes, seat comfort could have improved, there could have been some more features, and the bike could have also come with dual channel ABS. However, it still does enough for it to be regarded as a good option for most buyers in the Indian market.

The on-road price for Suzuki Gixxer SF ranges between Rs.1.25 - Rs.1.3 lakhs based upon the location of purchase in India. However, the ex-showroom price may be a little different because alongside the manufacturing cost of the vehicle it also includes dealer/seller profit, GST, transportation charges, and other charges. • Is Suzuki Gixxer SF a good bike?

Suzuki Gixxer SF houses all the latest specifications that you require in a sports bike in India. Keeping up the legacy of Suzuki bikes, the different variants of Gixxer SF has set the bars high for its competitors. The dimensions, weight, design, performance, everything is in perfect sync to provide its riders with the best experience.

  • Is Suzuki Gixxer SF better than Bajaj Pulsar AS150?

Be it Honda or Bajaj or Yahama or Suzuki, the 150 ccs segment had witnessed a plethora of action since last year. Bike lovers often ask us which of the above-mentioned two bikes should be parked in their garage? Well, our experts concluded Suzuki Gixxer SF to be better than Bajaj Pulsar AS 150, citing various reasons as mentioned below:-

    • Design and Features: With its full fairing, the Gixxer SF is the most handsome bike with its creases, scoops, and muscular tank that flows well with the overall design. However, the Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 is equipped with a quarter fairing. Also, the Suzuki Gixxer SF employs an all-digital instrument cluster whereas the Pulsar AS 150 has a semi-digital console.
    • Engine and Performance: The Pulsar AS 150 houses the most powerful air-cooled 150 ccs motor, equipped with 4-valves that push out 17 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 13 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. Although the Suzuki Gixxer SF cannot match the grunt of the Pulsar AS 150, Suzuki's engine refinement and motor feels are far better engineered than that of Bajaj.
    • Ride, Handling, and Braking: The upright riding posture of Suzuki Gixxer gives it a lower ranking compared to Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 if we go for a sporty look. However, it is highly comfortable for long distances. At the same time the handling dynamics, communicative chassis, telescopic fork, and mono-shock unit suspension duties, makes Gixxer SF an absolute delight.
    • Fuel efficiency and Pricing: The Pulsar AS 150 returned us an overall figure of 52 kmpl while the Suzuki Gixxer ran 47 km on a litre of fuel. Also, the pricing of Pulsar is less than Suzuki. However, one cannot just ignore the built quality and Japanese technology that Suzuki employs, making their products far more durable.
  • Which model of Suzuki Gixxer SF is best?

The Moto GP version is the best Suzuki Gixxer SF variant which is oil-cooled and has a single cylinder. However, it is priced at an upper range of Rs.1.75L to Rs.1.8L. The lower-priced variants are no less and give absolutely the same kind of performance with small technical specification changes. Suzuki has left no stone unturned to provide a holistic blend of modern features and sporty design in the different variants of Gixxer SF. So if you are looking for a powerful and durable bike on a limited budget, you can go for the 150 ccs variant which costs almost Rs.50,000 less. However, if budget is not an issue, we would strongly recommend the 250 ccs variant.

  • Suzuki Gixxer SF vs Competition

The Suzuki Gixxer SF is the latest offering by the Japanese two-wheeler company and also the cheapest full faired motorcycle on sale in the country. In this section, we will compare its specifications with the other well-known bikes in India - namely Yamaha Fazer FI, Bajaj Pulsar AS 150, and Hero Karizma R.

    • The Suzuki Gixxer SF is the only motorcycle with a single headlamp unit while all other sports bikes house a twin headlamp design. But, it is also the only motorcycle that is equipped with a full fairing bodywork, a gear shift indicator, and a gear position indicator. Other motorcycles are equipped with quarter-fairing bodywork.
    • The Suzuki Gixxer SF and the Yamaha Fazer FI employ an all-digital instrument console while the other two have a part-analogue-part-digital instrument cluster.
    • All four motorcycles sport an LED headlight and tail lamp, while only the Hero Karizma R gets LED position lamps. Additional equipment on the Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 includes backlit switchgear and projector headlamp.
    • Except for Yamaha Fazer FI (which has a traditional flat and wide single-piece handlebar), all the three other motorcycles feature clip-on handlebars.
    • The Suzuki Gixxer SF has an air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 13.4 bhp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The Yamaha Fazer FI has the least powerful motor with 13.1 bhp power at 8,000 rpm and 12.8 Nm torque at 6,000 rpm. The Hero Karizma R has air-cooled power plant pumps delivering 19.2 bhp power at 7,500 rpm and 19.3 Nm torque at 6,000 rpm. The Pulsar AS 150 also houses a powerful air-cooled 150 ccs motor, equipped with 4-valves that push out 17 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 13 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. All the above motorcycles transmit power to the rear-wheel via a 5-speed constant gearbox.
    • The suspension duties on Suzuki Gixxer SF and Yamaha Fazer FI are handled by telescopic front forks and a mono-shock setup at the rear. The other two motorcycles adopt more conventional telescopic front forks and twin hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear.
    • Talking about the chassis, Suzuki Gixxer SF, Hero Karizma R, and Yamaha Fazer FI employ a diamond-type frame. The Pulsar AS 150 adopts a perimeter frame chassis. The wheelbase for Gixxer and Fazer is 1330 mm, for Pulsar it is 1350 mm and for Karizma, it is 1355 mm.
    • All four motorcycles house disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The braking performance of the Yamaha Fazer FI is better than Suzuki Gixxer SF which is a bit jerky. The brake lever on the Pulsar AS150 is a bit spongy.
    • The Bajaj Pulsar AS 150 and the Hero Karizma R have an overall fuel efficiency of 35 to 40 kmpl. Yamaha has equipped the Fazer FI with fuel injection and Blue Core tech to hike its fuel efficiency to around 44 kmpl. Suzuki has also added the SEP tech that reduces friction to improve combustion efficiency and hike the mileage figures to be around 48 kmpl.
    • Talking about the price, the new Suzuki Gixxer SF 2019 model is priced the most at Rs. 1.25 lakh while the others are being sold at a range of Rs.85,000 to Rs.95,000. However, you cannot just ignore the better-engineered and more defined Japanese technology of Suzuki and Yamaha.

All You Need to Know About the Gixxer SF

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited has introduced the updated 2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF that has the same 155 ccs engine as the older Gixxer SF, but it houses a new chassis and minor changes in the dimensions to make it look like Gixxer 250. Here's everything you need to know about the new Suzuki Gixxer SF:-

The 2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF 155 has more or less an identical design to the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, with a sharper bodywork, an LED headlight & taillight, an updated chassis, and a new split seat.

Unlike the matte colours of Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, the 2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF 155 is available in two glossy colours - Glass Sparkle Black and a dual-tone colour in Metallic Sonic Silver with Glass Sparkle Black highlights.

It has a sportier silhouette, aptly facilitated by the clip-on handlebars, 2,205 mm length, 715 mm width, and 1,035 mm height. It has a ground clearance of 165 mm and a muscular fuel tank 12 litres capacity.

The engine is the same 155 cc, single-cylinder, SOHC, two-valve, air-cooled, and fuel-injected one which has 13.4 bhp of maximum power at 8000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of peak torque at 6000 rpm with the same 5-speed gearbox.

The 155 ccs engine aptly meets the Bharat Stage IV (BS-IV) emission regulations.

The 2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF weighs 146 kg, i.e. 6 kg more than the older model, and the overall length, width, height, and seat height have decreased. But the wheelbase has increased by 10 mm making it much more stable and taut.

Priced at Rs.1,25,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), the 2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF is almost Rs.8,000 more expensive than the older generation model. However, our experts guarantee that there is no direct rival to this bike in the 150-160 ccs. It is the best full-faired entry-level bike in the sports segment.

Gixxer SF 155 easily speeds up to 122 km/h but the engine is most comfortable at 80-90 km/h. It delivers a fuel economy of about 42-46 kmpl (city and highway combined) depending upon the riding style and requirement.
