About TVS Jupiter

TVS being one of the most well-known brands when it comes to scooters as well as bikes, has yet again delivered with the all-new Jupiter. They have recently declared the launch of the Bharat Stage VI or BS6 compliant version of the 110 cc scooter in India in 2021 with a slight hike in its price.  This one is equipped with an Ecothrust fuel injection Technology, abbreviated to ET-Fi tech, which is the first time any scooter with this technology has been launched in India. The day after TVS launched their flagship bikes, the apache RTR 200 4V, in the year 2020, they launched the new version of Jupiter with enhanced performance, driveability, fuel economy and smoothness.

This commuter scooter has a wide and long seating arrangement, comfortable for three people. However, most states allow only two riders in a two-wheeler, including the driver. That said, several states have a law that says that you cannot ride with more people than two. You shouldalways check before you take pillion riders to ensure that you are not violating any law. That said, the seat of this scooter is quite comfortable, and you can take this for long drives as well as your daily commuting.

When it comes to comfort, TVS has really made some progress with this scooter and made sure there is nothing to complain about from their customers. While this scooter is very good for daily commuting, it cuts some corners when it comes to off-road riding. With a ground clearance of only 150 mm and a wheelbase of 1275 mm, it is preferred if you stick to city roads to ensure the longevity of the scooter and safer ride quality.

The scooter, as it is supposed to be, is very fuel-efficient, along with a new engine that is quite powerful. The TVS Jupiter comes with 110 CC engines that can provide 7.9 BHP at 7500 RPM of maximum power while also exerting a maximum torque of 8NM at 5500 RPM. All of this is paired with a CVT gearbox, which, like all other scooters, is automatic. When compared to the other scooter model in this segment, these numbers are very impressive and make the scooter much better than the other models and worth the investment.

Along with such an exquisite engine, the TVS Jupiter comes with a patented Eco-meter that has Power mode and Eco Mode. As is evident that by the name, with the Eco mode, you can get better fuel efficiency, while with Power mode, you will get more power from the engine. Since this model is made to suffice the commercial market demands, it comes in 5 variants. Starting with the TVS Jupiter Sheet meatal while BS-VI, being the cheapest, then comes the STD BS-VI, the ZX BS-VI, the ZX Disc BS-VI and Classic Edition. Along with all the necessary features, this scooter's engine is very efficient and can provide a mileage of up to 62 KMPL, which is quite impressive given the weight and engine capacity. The total fuel tank capacity of this bike is 5L, excluding the 1L reserve tank, which helps provide an overall riding range of 310 KM.

All that said, what sets this scooter apart from other contemporary models in the market is its amazing looks. This scooter comes with a relevant and peppy graphics kit installed, which makes it quite appropriate for young as well as middle-aged riders. Another feature that is not normally seen in other scooters is the TVS patented IntelliGO tech. With this, a simple twist of the throttle can turn on the engine. This makes riding the scooter a lot more convenient in busy streets and while stopping at a traffic light.

TVS Jupiter Expert Review

TVS Jupiter

TVS, one of the most popular two-wheeler companies in India, has yet another success with Jupiter, ranging between INR 68,571 and INR 82,346. With an engine capacity of 109.7 cc and fuel tank capacity of 5.0L, this bike offers a mileage of about 62 Km/L. With a kerb weight of 109Kg, TVS Jupiter is pretty handy for its user. The bike comes in 5 petrol variants: Sheet Metal White BS VI, STD BS VI, ZX BS VI, Classic Edition BS VI and ZX Disc BS VI. The bike features a series of exciting features such as Exclusive Mobile App, Bluetooth, Helmet Reminder, Navigation Assist, Digital Analogue Speedometer, Voice Assist, and Adjustable Shocks.

How is the design?

Despite inheriting the same 8-year-old design of the previous models, TVS Jupiter still manages a fresh look and design. It comes with the elegance and sleekness of the mature two-wheeler audience would definitely appreciate. Unlike NTorq, the Jupiter does not feature flashy colours, and the starlight blue and Royal wine colour choices bring a premium feel to the scooter. It also features dual-tone seats, 3D logo along with a few chrome bits to upgrade its style quotient. The model is bare-boned and the standard model does not feature an USB Charger. A windshield has been added to the classic variants only.

The new LED headlamp is a significant upgrade from the halogen headlamps in the previous models. The bright and big indicators and the attractive tail-light set the tone while riding. The seat features a dual-tone brown and beige, which compliments the scooter’s overall look.

How is the performance?

TVS Jupiter’s overall performance is impressive in the two-wheeler market in India. Registering almost mixed to positive reviews from users and critics, the bike is ideal for daily commuting. The 109cc, single cylinder, fuel injected, air-cooled engine is able to produce a maximum power of 7.4 PS at 7000 rpm and a maximum torque of 8.4 Nm at 5500 rpm. In order to meet the BS6 norms, the scooter has undergone a number of changes. Despite the integration of fuel injections, the scooter is restrictively tuned and it has lost a bit on performance. A slight gruffness might be felt at a low speed which is likely to go away at 35-40 kmph.

How does the TVS Jupiter Ride?

One positive side of TVS Jupiter is its ride quality. In the front of the scooter is the telescopic fork shock absorber, which is paired with a conventional 3-step preload adjustable mono-shock in the middle. Even though the TVS Jupiter does not offer anything extraordinary, it does not miss out on the basic features. A front disc brake option is available for the rider, and it also comes with a pair of drum brakes in the rear as well as in the front, which enables quick stop. Even with the simple features, the ride quality of the scooter is impressive, making it convenient and functional.

How comfortable is the TVS Jupiter?

Even with simple and ordinary features, TVS Jupiter feels comfortable while riding and an ideal choice for daily urban commuting and long rides. The seats are well-cushioned and long, adding to the comfort of the rider as well as the pillion. Besides, the smooth suspension on the scooter is capable of absorbing most potholes and bumps, making the vehicle ideal for Indian roads. The sitting posture might feel strenuous after a long ride.

How's the tech?

This is a major aspect where TVS Jupiter cuts several corners. Even though there is a fuel injector in the scooter and it is fuel-injected, it lacks a number of significant modern tech features, which are available in almost all the other scooters in the same segment. The features available on this bike include the following:

• Mobile app
• Bluetooth connectivity
• Helmet reminder
• Navigation assist
• Data analogue speedometer
• Voice assist
• Adjustable shocks.

There is however, one significant feature in the TVS Jupiter and that is the patented Eco Metre, which features Eco Mode and Power Mode. While Eco Mode ensures better fuel efficiency of the vehicle, the power mode ensures more power from the engine.

How's the mileage of the TVS Jupiter?

The efficient engine of TVS Jupiter is capable of providing almost up to 62 Kmpl in all the variants. It also features a 5 litres fuel tank capacity along with a 1 litre reserve tank as well. Adding all of this, a rider is able to get 310 km of riding range, on an average.

Is the TVS Jupiter good value for money?

Considering the affordable price range of the TVS Jupiter, it can be assumed that the bike is a good value for money. Even though it has missed out on some important tech features, it still has a lot to offer at this price range, and therefore, an ideal vehicle for daily commuting. Overall, the TVS Jupiter is fashionable, productive, efficient and practical for use.

How is the after sales service?

The TVS Jupiter offers 5 free services. The first service is offered after 500-750km, or 1 month, whichever is earlier. The second free service is offered after 2500-3000 km, or 3 months, whichever is earlier. The third service is offered after 5000-6000km, or 6 months, whichever is earlier. The fourth service is offered after 8500-900 Km, or 9 months, whichever is earlier and the fifth service is done after 11,500 Km-12,000 Km, or 12 months, whichever is earlier.

Which motorbikes compete in this segment?

The other motorbikes competing in the same segment as TVS Jupiter include Honda Activa 6G, Honda Maestro Edge 110, Honda Pleasure Plus 110, and so on.

Verdict (Value for money)

Analysing the other motorbikes competing in the same segment, the TVS Jupiter is possibly the most affordable of all. It is INR300 less than the Activa 6G base variant, when both the scooters are equipped in the same fashion. Moreover, the larger rear wheel gives TVS Jupiter a slight advantage. It is a vehicle worth buying at this price.

Well balanced between power, performance, milege and comfort. Go for it. You will be happy. But keep in mind that for the pillion rider, the footrest is placed slightly above, which may feel uncomfortable for some. But the suspension system is very good. Overall it is very fine. You will not regret. My milege(around 40) is clearly in town riding with very bad roads.

All You Need to Know About the Jupiter

The TVS Jupiter is one of the leading names in the scooter industry at this point in time and quite deservedly so.

With a powerful engine, efficient engineering, proper storage space, a high mileage, and several other similar features, the TVS Jupiter has surely made a mark in the common consumer market since its introduction.

When compared to its predecessor, which was also a success, this one has a new LED headlight, bigger and brighter indicators and a new design language altogether.

One of the features that really make this scooter one of a kind is the patent intelliGO. With this feature, you can turn on a stopped engine only with one twist of the throttle. This makes the scooter a lot more convenient in situations like traffic signals or busy roads. Along with that, it also helps save petrol when it counts.

All in all, the TVS Jupiter is a major but worthwhile upgrade from its predecessor and quite competitive when compared to its other competitors in the market.
