About TVS Jupiter 125

TVS Motor Company has expanded its 125 cc scooter stable with the launch of the new Jupiter 125. The new TVS Jupiter 125 is priced from Rs. 86,405 for the Drum Alloy variant, going up to Rs. 90,655 for the Disc-alloy variant and Rs. 96,855 for the SmartXonnect variant. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The new TVS Jupiter 125 though is the quintessential family scooter and has been developed from the ground up. It gets the same wheelbase as the Jupiter 110 but the model is longer and wider in comparison while sporting a host of new features some of which are segment-first.

The TVS Jupiter 125 looks familiar sporting the simple styling with an LED headlamp on top with the indicators integrated into the front apron. The indicators though now get the LED guidelights that bring a new signature look to the model. You also get the same LED pattern for the taillight that is now wider and looks fantastic. The top disc brake variant gets chrome inserts on the front apron, headlamp, side panels, and exhaust muffler. There's also a reflector integrated into the grab rail. The scooter gets an all-metal body and is offered with vibrant colours - orange, white, blue and grey. The 3D badges also look premium on the model.

The Jupiter 125 comes with several thoughtful changes. The fuel filler lid has moved up front and the fuel tank is now placed under the floorboard. This makes for a 60:40 (front: rear) weight distribution, lower centre of gravity and makes way for a larger under-seat storage capacity at 32 litres. The floorboard is wider too and offers better legroom and a flat board allowing the ease of carrying things. Other features including an analogue instrument console with a digital display, an all-in-one ignition, TVS Intelligo auto start-stop system, a one-touch starter, combi-braking and more.

Power comes from the newly-developed 124.8 cc single-cylinder engine that is tuned for 8.18 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 10.5 Nm of peak torque at 4,500 rpm. The motor is paired with a CVT unit. The scooter comes with telescopic forks at the front and a segment-first gas-charged rear monoshock. Braking options include the front disc and drum set-up on the top trim, while the lower variants get drum brakes at either end.

The TVS Jupiter 125 is a scooter for the family-oriented commuter and takes on the Suzuki Access 125, Honda Activa 125, Yamaha Fascino 125, Hero Destini 125 and the likes.

TVS Jupiter 125 Expert Review

Introduction

The TVS Jupiter 125 is available for an ex-showroom price ranging between Rs. 78,175 and Rs. 85,075. It comes in three petrol variants: Drum Steel Wheels, Drum Alloy Wheels, Disc Alloy Wheels. The bikes sport attractive colour options: Pristine White, Titanium Grey, Indi Blue, and Dawn Orange. Designed for daily commuting, the TVS Jupiter 125 is family-oriented scooter, ideal for the urban setup.

How is the design?

With the brand-new design, the TVS Jupiter 125 appears to be fresh. The front apron of the bike features differently positioned LED DRLs, along with that body-coloured bits can be found across the footboard as well as on the inside of the apron. The bike sports several chrome linings and chrome inserts around the speedometer console, headlight and side panel. The part-digital and part-analogue speedometer offers a series of important information such as fuel consumption, trip metres and so on. The bike comes with an external fuel filler cap on the left side of the apron as well as on the front. The fuel tank of the TVS Jupiter 125 has been shifted under the floorboard, leaving adequate space under the seat.

How is the performance?

Powered by a single cylinder, 124.8cc, two-valve engine, it churns out a peak torque of 10.5Nm at 4,500rpm, and a maximum power of 8.04bhp at 6,500rpm. Even though the bike does not give the feeling of breath-taking quick, but once the TVS Jupiter 125 is one the move, there is a nice build-up of the acceleration in the mid-range. Power delivery is linear and smooth, with the start-stop system working smoothly, and when the throttle is twisted at the stop lights, it fires up the engine, silently and instantly. The two-valve engine of the TVS Jupiter 125 offers refined and smooth performance, with the acceleration working fine, as long as the bike is driven between 60-70Kmph speed.

How does the TVS Jupiter 125 ride?

Overall, the ride quality of the TVS Jupiter 125 is good, but it does not match the performance of NTorq, especially in terms of speed. However, the TVS Jupiter 125 comes with good handling and agility as well. Around the corner, it is expected that the scooter would remain stable and planted, which is certainly welcoming. The bike sports 12-inch wheels, along with a telescopic front suspension, with 77mm travel, and it also features a gas-charged, 3-step adjustable rear shock. The bike performs well even on bad and undulated roads, with the suspensions having the ability to soak up most broken patches and potholes, quite comfortably and easily.

How comfortable is the TVS Jupiter 125?

Coming to comfort, it is believed to be one of the strongest points of the new TVS Jupiter 125. As claimed by TVS itself, the seat of Jupiter 125 is 65mm longer than that of the Jupiter 110. Therefore, it must feel comfortable even when occupied by two-large sized adults. The seat is also very well-cushioned, and does not feel uncomfortable even when driven for hours. Even though it is not the plushest setup so far, the ride with the TVS Jupiter 125 does not feel jarring either. The scooter has the capacity to iron out road joints, stones and other minor undulations, in a flawless manner. Even when riding over big bumps or potholes, it is likely that the rear of the rider will bounce a bit, but never to the point of throwing them off.

How's the tech?

The TVS Jupiter 125 comes with a range of standard tech features and some of these are listed below:

  • Analogue Speedometer
  • Clock
  • Fuel Gauge
  • Pass Light
  • Digital Trip Metre
  • Fuel Warning Indicator
  • Trip Metre Count

One of the big downsides is that the TVS Jupiter 125 does not come with a Bluetooth Connectivity, which is available in most of the other motorbikes competing in the same segment. A tiny LCD is in the cockpit area of the bike, displaying a number of important data. The rider would be able to know in which mode they are riding the scooter- power mode or economy mode.

How's the mileage of the TVS Jupiter 125?

As claimed by TVS, the Jupiter 125 has the capacity to deliver a mileage of 50Km/L, on the highway as well as under moderate traffic conditions. With a fuel-tank capacity of 5.1 Litres, the rider is able to get a good range of about 255 Kms, which is not bad at all.

Is the TVS Jupiter 125 good value for money?

In terms of performance, the TVS Jupiter 125 is excellent. The engine performance of the scooter is acceptable with incredible handling dynamics. The bike also features strong brakes, and therefore, an overall comfortable experience of the rider. The utility features of the scooter are believed to be best in class. Thus, TVS Jupiter is supposed to bring value to its customers. In terms of pricing, it is priced slightly higher than most of its competitors in the same segment. However, it does not come with Bluetooth Connectivity than most of its rivals.

How is the after sales service?

The periodic maintenance schedule suggests that TVS has 5 free services for its Jupiter 125. The first free service is offered after 500-750 Kms, or 1 month from the date of purchase, whichever is earlier. The second free service is offered after 2,500 to 3,000 Km or 3 months, whichever is earlier. The third free service is provided by the company after 5,000 to 6,000 Km, or 6 months, whichever is earlier, and fourth is offered after 8,500 to 9,000 Km, or 9 months, whichever is earlier. The fifth free service is offered after 11,500 to 12,000 Km, or 12 months, whichever is earlier.

Which motorbikes compete in this segment?

There are many other motorbikes competing in the same segment as TVS Jupiter 125 including Honda Activa 125, Hero Maestro Edge 125, Suzuki Access 125, Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid and so on.

Verdict (Value for money)

At its price, the TVS Jupiter 125 is among the most affordable scooters in its segment and has delivered an impressive performance in terms of ride quality, comfort, design, and features. The bike is packed with interesting standard features, however, does not have a Bluetooth Connectivity, like most of its competitors in the same segment.
