Yezdi Roadster Expert Review

Introduction

The Roadster is one of the most affordable Yezdi bikes in India, and available at an ex-showroom price ranging between 2.01 Lakh and 2.09 Lakh. The bike is available in 7 petrol variants, featuring attractive colours and sporty looks. Along with an impressive performance, the bike gets a modern retro styling, along with attractive tech features.

How is the design?

There are several elements lending to the retro charms of the Yezdi Roadster including the peanut-shaped fuel tank, headlamp, and pea-shooter style exhaust. The various blacked-out elements and alloy-wheels add to the contemporary touch of the bike. However, the overall fit and finish of the bike is not so impressive. The switchgear quality and the paint finish of the Yezdi Roadster is acceptable to the point that it is able to complement the overall bodywork. The edges of the engine cooling fins appear to be shoddy and the edge of one of the fins is chipped off to some extent. Initially, it may not appear to be a major issue, but it would definitely question the long-term reliability of the bike.

How is the performance?

Coming to the performance, the Yezdi Roadster is powered by a single-cylinder, 334 cc, liquid cooled engine. However, multiple changes have been executed by the brand for its Yezdi including the different connecting rods, an updated crankshaft, tweaked cylinder head and so on. The engine has the capacity to churn out a maximum power of 29.9bhp along with a peak torque of 29Nm at 6,500rpm. A basic cycle part sports an 18-inch wheel combination suspended by dual shock absorbers at the bike’s rear and telescopic forks up front. The single disc at the rear and front produce the stopping power and it is supported by a standard dual-channel ABS.

How does the Yezdi Roadster ride?

The Roadster can be mounted effortlessly, with its seat height being 790mm, and pushing around the bike, and taking it off the stand is not as much difficult. This might be because of the relatively low kerb weight of 184 Kg. However, during full-lock turn, the bike’s bar-end mirrors continue to strike the wrists of the rider, but bar-end mirrors do not feature in all the variants. Overall, the Yezdi Roadster offers a quality ride and it has the capacity to absorb potholes and bumps efficiently due to the suspension setup.

How comfortable is the Yezdi Roadster?

The Yezdi Roadster welcomes the riders with an upright and neutral riding stance. While the footpegs are forward-set, the flat handlebars of the bike are tilted towards the rider. Coming to the touring comfort of the bike, it is believed to be ideal for long rides, and especially for daily commuting, and no sense of discomfort is expected in about an hour or two of continuous riding. The well-cushioned low-seats of the bike add to the comfort of the rider and the pillion, and the seat is just long enough to hold two average-sized adults comfortably. For the comfort of the pillion, a backrest is also featured in the bike. How's the tech?

The following are the technological features of Yezdi Roadster that contribute to its incredible performance.

  • The Roadster is propelled by a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 334.0 cc engine with self-start mechanism and paired with a 6-speed gearbox unit and electronic fuel injection.
  • The engine can produce a maximum of 29.2 bhp of power at 7300 rpm and a peak torque of 29 Nm at 6500 rpm.
  • The capacity of the fuel tank is 12.5 litres.
  • The braking duties are carried by disc brakes on both wheels with a single-channel ABS.
  • Both the headlight and the tail light of the bike are LED.
  • The instrument cluster of the bike is fully digital.
  • There are indicators for fuel warning, gear, low battery and low oil.
  • There is a pass light, a fuel gauge and an engine-kill switch.

How's the mileage of the Yezdi Roadster?

The Yezdi Roadster can deliver an average mileage of 32.16 kmpl. In city traffic, however, it can deliver a mileage of up to 28.53 kmpl.

Is the Yezdi Roadster good value for money?

The Yezdi Roadster is one of the most affordable bikes of its class at Rs 2.09 lakhs, depending on the choice of colour. It is clearly more affordable than 350cc competitors from Honda and Royal Enfield. It will give you the value you are looking for with its performance and fuel economy.

How is the after sales service?

The paid services of Yezdi Roadster are pretty high compared to the rival bikes in the same category. The first service is scheduled after one month or after riding 1000 km, the second service is scheduled after six months or after riding 6000 km, the third service is scheduled after 12 months or after riding 12000 km, and the fourth service is scheduled after 18 months or after riding 18000 km. The paid services can be availed after each 6 months or 6000 km.

Which motorbikes compete in this segment?

The rival motorbikes that compete in the same category as the Yezdi Roadster are Benelli Imperiale 400, Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Royal Enfield Meteor 350, and Honda H’ness CB350.

Verdict (Value for money)

This street motorcycle is available at Rs 2.09 lakhs in India and comes in seven colour options and five variants. This bike is propelled by a high-capacity engine which is now paired with a 6-speed gearbox. It comes at the same price to that of the bikes from Royal Enfield in the same category. This bike is pretty good, in terms of performance and handling. The braking controls and suspension response have improved significantly. This bike provides average comfort on long-hauls and so does most of its rivals. The mileage is pretty good both in city and on highways. The design and styling is great and this bike comes with a unique appearance. It shares some similar features with some of the offerings of Honda and Royal Enfield. You can use it for commuting regularly through city traffic. Overall, this bike is a good value for money.

Final Verdict on Roadster

As an everyday motorcycle, the Yezdi Roadster's engine has been tuned for precisely that kind of use; short dashes around town, and for the occasional long-ish jaunt. The stance and overall design of the Yezdi Roadster are somewhat of a hit and miss, and even in the dynamics front, the Jawa Forty-Two feels more agile and planted. But if it's a true-blue nostalgia-filled Yezdi you're looking for, the Yezdi Roadster still looks the closest to the old 250 cc two-stroke Yezdi bikes from the '70s.

Not a practical bike for City Commute
@
2.0 star-fullstar-fullstarstarstar
I am writing this review after riding for 700 km. I have driven as a solo rider and for most parts i have driven with the pillion rider. I bought this bike for my daily commute to office which is about 16km from home. I have driven in peak traffic conditions passing through Silk Board area in Bangalore. Looks This bike surely is a head turner will have resemeblance to Harley Davidson. 5/5 Seats Default/stock seats are decent for rider and pillion without any laptop bags. But when rider and pillion waears laptop bag its not comfortable. The seats are not very comfortable for long rides. 3/5 Engine This engine has load of torque, its easy to overtake a vehicle. If you are driving in a bumper to bumper traffic like Bangalore. The engine gets heated easily and you start hearing the sound of radiator. The radiator sound is quite loud and its very irritating both for rider and pillion. Only good thing about the engine is you can just drive fast apart from that nothing else. 1/5 Gear Shifting This bike has 6 Gears and it has short gearing ratio. You should constantly keep changing the gear. If the gears are not changed then engine stops which is kind of disappointing. You need to constantly be on throttle. 0/5 Brakes The breaks are really good, the dual disc does it job. 4/5 Manouvering Although this bike weighs 184 kg the weight management is brilliant. You dont feel that weight, its easy to maouver in busy traffic even with pillion.4/5 Overall this bike looks very good from the outside. But the engine heating, loud radiator sound, frequent gear shifting and engine cutting off during lower torques is a big disappointment. Although this looks like a cruiser it isnt, at the same time not a practical bike for city commute. Although Yezdi has made a comeback after long time, its very likely they have not considered the practicalities of Indian Roads and Traffic Conditions.
