Industry chamber FICCI called for the inclusion of battery swapping model of charging for incentives under FAME-II scheme on Friday to help the acceleration of electric mobility in India. The Rs. 10,000-crore Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME -II) envisages incentives mainly to 10 lakh registered electric two-wheelers, 5 lakh e-rickshaws and 7,090 e-buses.

The Supreme Court Monday said no coercive action will be taken against German auto major Volkswagen against whom the National Green Tribunal has imposed a fine of Rs 500 crore for damaging the environment through use of "cheat device" in its diesel cars in India. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Thursday stressed on the need of adopting shared mobility and electric vehicles to meet increasing demands of transportation and said standalone metro systems are not effective as they require a holistic approach. Delivering a keynote address at the launch of ''Electric Mobility Forum'' of research organisation WRI India, Naidu also suggested for a comprehensive mobility plan to meet the need of cities for a period of 30-40 years. "Standalone metro systems are not effective and need a holistic approach. Globally, the mobility sector is acquiring new paradigms. Shared mobility, electric vehicles, bicycles, connected vehicles are taking the centre stage and India must also follow the same," he said.
The National Green Tribunal Thursday slapped a fine of Rs 500 crore on German auto major Volkswagen for damaging the environment through the use of "cheat device" in its diesel cars in India. A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed the carmaker to deposit the amount within two months. The tribunal enhanced the compensation amount of Rs. 171.34 crore, which was recommended by a NGT- appointed committee, as a means of "creating deterrence". The auto maker, however, said that it did not violate the BS-IV norms and that the test results were based on "on road testings" for which there were no prescribed standards.
Samsung Electronics Co. said on Thursday it has clinched a deal with German carmaker Audi AG to supply automotive processors designed for in-vehicle information and entertainment systems. The South Korean chipmaker, which first showcased the automotive chip brand in October 2018, said the Exynos Auto V9 will be utilised for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) solutions for Audi cars, which deliver various information, as well as entertainment content, Yonhap news agency reported.
The Delhi government withdrew on Monday, 24 December, its order of an 18-fold hike in one-time parking charges for cars and annual fees for commercial vehicles from 1 January. The Delhi Transport Department had, on Friday, approved a recommendation for the hike by three municipal corporations of the city. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, on Monday, directed withdrawal of his department's previous order due to "irregularities" in it.
Car buyers will have to pay higher one-time parking charges in 2019 as the Delhi Transport Department has approved a recommendation for a hike by three municipal corporations of the city. According to the order, the charges will now range between Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 75,000. An order issued by outgoing Transport Commissioner Varsha Joshi on Friday said that the new parking charges will be applicable from January 1, 2019.

Luxury car maker Porsche, part of the Volkswagen group, will launch an electric vehicle (EV) in India in the beginning of 2020, a company official said. Porsche, which started operations on India in 2012, has so far been selling fully imported cars here as the company does have any manufacturing or assembly units outside its home country Germany. "We will launch a fully electric car in India in the beginning of 2020," director of Porsche India Pavan Shetty told PTI.
