Bajaj and Uber have partnered to launch the Qute quadricycle for the Uber XS ride category in Bengaluru. This is a pilot project and it will be offered in certain parts of Bengaluru, to begin with.
Bajaj Auto is currently speaking to several RTOs in India to finalise the fare structure for quadricycles that will have commercial applications. The Pune-based automaker recently launched the Bajaj Qute, the country's first-ever quadricycle, in Maharashtra, for both personal and commercial usage.

Bajaj Auto will be expanding production of its three-wheeler and Quadricycles up to one million per annum, the manufacturer has announced in a statement. The upscale comes as the government has abolished the "permit" regime that was previously applicable for the sale of auto rickshaws. A new category of small vehicles - Quadricycles, has been approved by the Indian government and in particular the Ministry Of Road Transport and Highways. This new category, which will mainly be used to classify small four wheeled personal vehicles (or commercial vehicles) will have to pass a list of emissions, crash and other norms which will be laid down by the government and the Automotive Research Association Of India - ARAI. The first vehicle to be launched under this new category will be the Bajaj Qute. Bajaj Auto has heavily lobbied for this particular class of vehicle as until now, there was no such special category in India like the ones in Europe and in other countries around the world. The government has made no indication as to what GST rate will be applied to register these vehicles or whether they will have special registration plates like the new green plates on electric vehicles.
Although quadricycles are capable of speeds as much as 100 km/h and have the look and feel of small cars, they do not have to meet the same safety standards.
While there is still uncertainty about the launch of Bajaj Auto's quadricycle RE60 in India, the company has announced its plans to export it to over 16 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
