About BSA Gold Star 650

The new BSA Gold Star 650 revives the legendary BSA Motorcycles brand, now owned by Classic Legends Private Limited (CLPL), a Mahindra Group subsidiary. This new iteration marks the third motorcycle brand under CLPL, following Jawa and Yezdi. The original Gold Star, renowned in its own right, was produced from 1938 to 1963, featuring various engine sizes including 350 cc and 500 cc units. The updated Gold Star 650 is powered by a 652 cc single-cylinder engine, delivering approximately 45 bhp and 55 Nm of torque.

Design

This contemporary model closely mirrors the classic 1960s Gold Star, capturing its nostalgic essence with a tear-drop fuel tank, wire-spoke wheels, and a round headlight equipped with a daytime running light. The vintage appeal is further enhanced by round analog dials and an old-school design with fake cooling fins, a traditional crankcase, prominent BSA logos, and classic “gold star” peashooter exhausts. The overall design pays homage to the original while integrating modern touches.

Engine

Under the hood, the Gold Star 650 boasts a robust 650 cc single-cylinder engine. This liquid-cooled unit features double overhead cams and four valves, producing 45 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 55 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Developed in collaboration with Rotax and the Technical University of Graz, this engine meets the latest emission standards and is paired with a five-speed gearbox and a chain final drive. Rotax also developed a similar engine for the BMW F 650 Funduro, a model previously available in India.

Chassis

The motorcycle is mounted on a tubular steel frame, contributing to its classic aesthetic and anticipated ride quality, though this will be confirmed upon testing. With a weight of 213.5 kg, it is not particularly lightweight. The suspension system includes telescopic front forks with 120 mm of travel and rear twin shocks adjustable in five settings, designed to enhance handling and comfort.

Brakes & Wheels

Braking is handled by a 320 mm front rotor and a 255 mm rear disc, both from Brembo, complemented by dual-channel ABS. The model features 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels, fitted with tubeless tyres. The European version has Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres, though the Indian variant's tyre specification is yet to be confirmed. With a 782 mm seat height and a comfortable design, this model is expected to attract enthusiasts of the modern classic style.
