It is designed in the café racer style but without the pillion seat for a more concentrated riding experience. The Continental GT is powered by a 648 cc parallel-twin BS6-compliant engine that produces 46.8 bhp and 52 Nm. A six-speed gearbox and chain drive supply the rear wheel. Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 Expert Review

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a powerful and spirited motorcycle with an iconic twist. It makes for a unique proposition at its price point.

How’s the design?

The bike comes with a classic and intriguing retro design like a café racer. In terms of road presence, matching up to it is hard. It offers lower bodywork across the rear and front, while coming with a round headlamp, smaller visor, suspension system with gators, metal tank, spoke wheels, and a halogen tail lamp and indicators. There is the completely bare engine with the oil-sump cover which is huge. There are also swept-up twin exhaust pipes with chrome finishes. The chrome touches are simply fantastic to say the least. Looks-wise, this is arguably on a different plane.

How is the performance?

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 comes with a 648 cc parallel-twin engine that makes 47 BHP and 52 Nm of peak torque. The engine revs neatly with a spread-out power band as well. The mid-range is chunky enough while the bike also feels responsive around the top-end. It can touch 100 kmph in the third gear, going up to 160 kmph easily. The bike comes with a good lower-end as well, making it a good option for city rides as well. Yet, the speeds come fast and the redline is at 8,000 RPM. The gearbox shifts nicely (6-speed) and the clutch is also lighter this time around. The engine revs smoothly over 7,000 RPM while churning out higher power than many of its counterparts. The Royal Enfield counter-balancer has been a masterstroke on this count, enabling more refinement and a zero-harsh engine note. There are only some negligible vibrations nearer to the 8,000 RPM mark. The engine has a mellower feel due to this reason as well.

How does the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 ride?

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 offers good ride and handling with a sporty touch as well. It offers a neat riding posture while the stiffer suspension also aids things. The front suspension can take most bumps and the rear gets 5-step pre-load adjustability as well. The stability quotient is tremendous and cornering is also nice. There is good grip with the Pirelli tyres and dual-channel Bosch ABS is another handy feature. The braking system is good although the ABS does set in slightly earlier than desired in some scenarios. However, the bike is still heavy to maneuver.

How comfortable is the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650?

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 offers a more comfortable riding posture this time with ergonomic foot-peg placement as well. Seat cushioning is also excellent to say the least. There is ample space for the pillion rider and seat height of 804 mm will constrain shorter riders in some cases.

How’s the Tech?

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 comes with a twin-pod instrument cluster and this has a tachometer and speedometer along with twin-trip meters, a fuel gauge, and odometer. The bike also gets dual-channel ABS from Bosch along with piano-finished switchgear.

How’s the mileage of the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650?

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 offers mileage of 25 to 28 kmpl.

Is the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 good value for money?

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 offers decent value for money and gets good features, a stylish design, great ride and handling manners, and most importantly, brand value. The bike is one of the best offerings from the brand in the country at this price point. The engine performance is a major plus point for sure.

How is the after sales service?

The service intervals are 5,000 km, 10,000 km, 20,000 km, 30,000 km, 40,000 km, and 50,000 km.

Which motorbikes compete in this Segment?

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 takes on its own sibling, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, the KTM 390, and the Harley Davidson Street 750. It does manage to hold its own in the segment with its power, performance, looks, and features.

Verdict (Value for Money)

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 stands out on the road and comes with immense brand value and road presence. It has a refined and powerful engine with great performance and speed. The ride and handling is top class while the price point is also competitive. However, braking could have been even better and the engine feels mellower this time around. The instrument console also feels slightly obsolete. Yet, these are minor aspects, since the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 manages to create that wow factor with ease.

Final Verdict on Continental GT 650

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a fun bike, if cafe racer styling is what you're looking for. The design and the performance come together very well on the RE Continental GT 650. If you were to choose one bike between the two, one bike that will do everything from commuting, weekend rides and the occasional long ride, I'd probably pick the Interceptor 650 for its laid back ergonomics and more comfortable riding position.

People also ask For

  • How much does a Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 cost?

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is priced at Rs. 330,630 (on-road) in Delhi. The ex-showroom price works out at Rs. 2.9 lakh (ex-showroom).

  • Is the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 a good bike?

Long riding in a single stretch of more than 100 miles is very tiresome, but the bike makes you want to ride more. Yes, some features are lacking and riders will feel the heavy weight as well. However, the old-school retro charm and the iconic design are major plus points along with the sheer power of this cafe racer. You will love the power delivery, handling and cruising ability at this price point. It also offers good ergonomics overall.

  • Is Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 better than the Interceptor 650?

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 both come with the same engine, features and specifications. There is not a lot to distinguish between the two bikes although the design and positioning are completely different. The Cafe Racer model, i.e. the Continental GT 650 is a single-seater proposition which caters to a different kind of cruiser audience. The Interceptor offers slightly lower mileage and is a little cheaper. It is a different type of bike as compared to the Continental GT 650 in terms of design. Of course, it also gets a pillion seat unlike its cafe racer twin.

  • Which model of Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is best?

There are three variants of the continental GT 650: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 Custom BS 6, Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 STD BS 6, and Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 Chrome BS 6. The costliest one of the three variants is the Continental GT 650 Chrome BS 6, whose ex-showroom price is Rs 3.2lakh. This is the fully loaded variant and with minimal price difference amongst the variants, this is the best pick for buyers.

All You Need to Know About the Continental GT 650

Here are some intriguing things that you must learn about the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650:

The Royal Enfield 650 Twins are powered by a brand new 649 cc parallel-twin engine with air and oil cooling that produces 46.8 bhp at 7250 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5250 rpm. From 2500 rpm, roughly 80% of the torque is accessible, and a flat torque curve results in plenty of power all the way up to 6000 rpm. A 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch transmits power to the rear wheels for easier lever usage. The top speed can touch 161 kmph.

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 both get standard 41 mm telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers. A 320 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc will be in charge of braking duties. Dual-channel ABS is standard. The motorcycle will also have big wire-spoked 18-inch wheels.

The new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 will get a slew of additional gear, making it an essential element of the RE-verse in today's times. Apparel, accessories, merchandise, motorbike safety gear, and more are included. You will not only be sold a motorcycle by Royal Enfield but also a lifestyle that you can flaunt in a variety of ways.

At every traffic light, the gleam of the Continental GT 650s chromed tank with mirror finish reflects the wide-eyed expressions of other drivers! When you ride the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, you feel delighted, and a warm flush of satisfaction comes over you. And few motorcycles, regardless of the segment, can claim a sense of uniqueness as this one.

Royal Enfield put a lot of effort into developing its first parallel-twin engine. The smoothness of the bike is the first thing you notice as you ride it. It's nothing like anything you'd expect from RE. The company claims that 80% of the torque is applied before the needle reaches 2,500 rpm and they are correct!

The Conti GT never runs out of breath, and there's always a constant surge of power waiting to be tapped, no matter what revs you're riding at. The throttle response is immediate, and the engine is capable of cruising at triple-digit speeds for as long as you desire.

A 6-speed gearbox transmits all of the power to the rear wheels smoothly, with the light clutch operation and smooth changes. The engine is as refined as any parallel-twin from a more prominent and premium motorcycle manufacturer. The vibrations (on the handlebar) only appear at the very top of the rev range, thanks to a counter-balancer.

The BS6 models are identical to the BS4 versions in terms of design and colour. The design is classically old-school and straightforward. The round headlamp, circular-twin pod instrument console, front set handlebar, and contoured seat all function flawlessly. Some riders may desire more features on their motorcycle, but this may detract from the bike's "old-school cool" sense.
