Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Expert Review

Introduction

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is available at an ex-showroom price ranging between 2.82 lakhs-3.04 Lakhs. It comes in three variants: STD BS VI, Custom BS VI and Chrome BS VI. The bike features 7 attractive colour options, and overall, the performance and quality of this bike is commendable, with the finest engine in its segment.

How is the design?

Coming to the design, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 sports a modern classic design, and inspired from the original Interceptor, introduced in the 60s’. With Interceptor 650, the rider is promised a relaxed riding position and experience. It, in fact, also captures the essence of the Classic British Roadster. The wide handlebars of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 are paired with low-foot pegs, necessitating an upright and comfortable riding experience. A tear-drop shaped fuel tank is featured in the bike, and the clean lines and diamond quilted seats add to the premium quality of the bike.

How is the performance?

Overall, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has been able to deliver a good road-performance, and it offers the rider with a comfortable riding experience, on every road condition, over potholes, speed-breakers, and in humid and hot conditions. After all, the 648 cc, air cooled engine is undeniably the glory of this bike, and once the throttle is whacked open, the revs climb past 4,000rpm, all the way to 7,000rpm, propelling the rider forward. The engine has the capacity to generate a peak torque of 52Nm at 5,250rpm, and a maximum power of 47.65ps at 7,150rpm, with disc brakes both at the rear and front. With the update, the engine of this bike is slightly better sounding and offers better fuel efficiency as well.

How does the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 ride?

The overall ride quality of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is impressive and it apparently shares the same features with the original interceptor. As it appears, the components such as the brakes and suspensions are the same as before, and understandably impressive. The performance test suggests that the braking figures of this bike is the best that have been recorded ever. However, the ride quality of the new Interceptor does not vary, and its suspension is positioned on the softer side, and might not deliver as much performance over the deeper potholes. This may be one of the noticeable downsides of this bike. Adding to some discomfort of the rider as well as the pillion is its narrow seat.

How comfortable is the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650?

The 648cc, air-cooled, parallel-twin engine of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is believed to be its crowning glory. Thus, the bike has the capacity to porter around at low revs. The bikes provide a good riding stance to the riders, ensuring they are upright and straight, making it ideal for even long rides. However, the suspension being on the softer side is a noticeable drawback of the bike, and therefore, deeper potholes can be a problem for the riders. The seats are not so cushioned and narrower than most of the other bikes in the same segment, and this might be a little discomfort for the riders, while they cruise through the city. Despite all the downsides, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is one of the most ideal bikes for enthusiasts as well as for the purpose of daily commuting.

Never was a fan of Royal En-field which produced vibrator machines such as Classic 350s and 500s. Seems like they have done their homework with the new twins. Refinement and braking is top notch. The sense of disbelief that you are actually riding a Royal Enfield will come to your mind when you ride the twins and it is an example of how Royal En-field has raised the bars in twin cylinder segment.

This is Pavan Reddy S from Vizag, and I work for Pharma company and I have taken RE INT 650 delivery yesterday. The moment I heard that RE is launching the vehicle. I have decided to own one. The main reason for opting the RE INT 650 is because in India the one only manufacture who are having great legacy with huge reliability and doing business ethically and continuing the culture of pure biking. Also this is only the Company in where you can keep a bike for your lifetime as a asset and you can carry forward to your next generation. Since fifteen years i was planning to own a RE bike. but some how it was not happen. RE after launching the INT 650 it was like a love at first sight. It's simple bike, minimalist design and huge power. I will not get into technical specification as so much of information is already spread by many reviewers. This bike will full fill all your dreams of holding big bike with minimum pricing comparatively(3.0 L on road price). Also it will fulfill all needy and standard requirements but greedy things will not not be catered. Can not expected with that price bracket. Riding with this bike is like gliding with breeze. At 80 kmph speed its like luxurious ride that you can feel. Suspension for single person is very comfortable and with pillion rider its very softer side. Breaking is like topnotch. Seat comfort is only one thing where RE need to work on. However this bike worthy, reliable and you can pass it to next generations also.
Worth the money, but truly NOT trustworthy for a tourer!!

I am so happy about the riding experience with this machine, smooth, solid, brilliant piece of engine(but not the engineering- will tell you the reason), looks , feel and I can keep going with the list but how can the engineers forget about the challenges that the Indian roads will pose to the tyres.. Whatever be the great experience one would feel while riding comes to ZERO, WHEN YOU ARE STRANDED IN SOME REMOTE RURAL STREETS/ROADS BY FLAT TYRES( Tube tyres). I personally experienced the above experience cos of this foolish Non-tubeless tyre(of course not without an alloy wheel) is a TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT FOR THIS PRICY machine and takes away the laurels any rider would give this bike at some point of time.

Today I got the delivery of BS6 variant of Interceptor 650 Ravishing Red colour......I rode it for about 65km since delivery in the afternoon today....it’s a wonder machine at that price....silky smooth ride quality and awesome power.....0-60km if you just turn the accelerator then you feel as if you are sitting on an airplane which is about to take off on the runway ...it’s a great experience and reminded me of my college days Yamaha RD 350....but much more power and refined feel. It’s a great bike to have, it’s very easy to ride though it’s 200+ kgs...I’m an average height guy but I felt it’s pretty easy even in city traffic....my son just loved it so much that even after parking it in the garage he kept it ON just to hear the beat for an hour or so...I highly recommend this to all bike enthusiasts of all age groups....will post my experience after few months of using it too...may be today being first day I’m over excited ????
