Maruti Suzuki has revealed an all-new Alto K10 for the Indian market. Priced from Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory), the new Alto K10 shares little with its smaller 800 sibling with the new car now based on Maruti’s extensively used Heartect platform. The K10 is also larger than the Alto 800 with prices also putting it in a similar range to Maruti’s own S-Presso. We see how it compares on paper with rivals such as the Renault Kwid and internally against the S-Presso and the Alto 800.

Starting with the size, the new K10 is physically larger than the Alto 800 being 85 mm longer, 45 mm taller and sitting on a 20 mm longer wheelbase. While the dimensions hint at interior space being improved over the 800, you will need to wait for our review to know more. The S-Presso, in comparison to the K10 is a larger model being longer, wider and taller (it gets a tall boy design) though the wheelbase is now identical.

In terms of Size, the Kwid is the largest model here being longer and wider than all three Marutis though despite having a crossover-inspired design its not as tall as the S-presso. The wheelbase too is notably longer than the K10 and S-Presso.

Coming to the engines, the new K10’s K10C petrol unit is unchanged from what was recently introduced in the updated S-Presso. Power and torque are identical as is the peak rpms. The Alto 800 is the least powerful model here down 6 bhp over the comparable Kwid 0.8. Similarly, it’s the Kwid 1.0 which is the most powerful on paper making 67 bhp and 72 Nm compared to the Maruti K10 mill’s 66 bhp and 89 Nm.

When it comes to prices, the Alto K10’s introductory pricing currently places it about Rs 26,000 below the S-Presso with the gap narrowing to about Rs 17,000 for the most expensive variant. The Kwid has the highest starting price of the lot though the most expensive model is priced at par with the most expensive variant of the S-Presso.
Note: The Alto 800 and S-Presso both get CNG options though we have only compared the petrol variants.
