List Of Traffic Fine Amounts In Delhi

Here's a list of traffic fine amounts in Delhi as per the Motor Vehicle Act, 2019.

India is one of the most dangerous places for motorists in the world, with the country having the number one rank in fatalities due to road accidents. India sees lakhs of road accidents every year and most of them involve two-wheelers. One of the biggest reasons for road accidents is violation of traffic rules. And to control the problem of unregistered vehicles in Delhi, the government has rolled out a list of new fines and we tell you all about them.

Traffic fines in Delhi

  • People driving or riding without a licence will be fined Rs. 5,000 and/or will have to do community service.
  • Motorists driving or riding unauthorised vehicles without a licence will have to pay a fine of anywhere between Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000.
  • Driving or riding under the influence of an intoxicating substance leads to a fine of Rs. 10,000 and/or six months in prison. Repeat offenders will be fined Rs. 15,000 and/or up to two years in jail.
  • Motorists who are found over-speeding will be charged between Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000 for light motor vehicles. For multi-purpose vehicles or human-powered vehicles, the fine amount will be between Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,000 along with seizing of driving licence.
  • If you do not have insurance for your vehicle, you can be fined Rs. 2,000 and/or be asked to do 3 months of prison and/or community service. A subsequent offence will attract a penalty of Rs. 4,000.
  • Not wearing a seat belt means you can be fined Rs. 1,000 and/or have to do community service. Riding without helmet - for both riders and pillions- will be fined Rs. 1,000 and/or licence disqualification along with having to do community service for three months.
  • Speeding and racing will lead to a fine of Rs. 5,000 and/or three months in prison and/or community service.
  • Subsequent violations can lead to a fine of Rs. 10,000 and up to 1 year in prison and community service.
  • Motorists engaged in dangerous driving/riding and jumping a red light will be fined anywhere between Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000 and/or six months to 1 year in prison along with licence seizure.
  • Driving or riding while on mobile phone will lead to a traffic fine of Rs. 5,000 while driving despite disqualification will attract a fine of Rs. 10,000 and/or community service.
  • If you do not give way to emergency vehicles, you may be fined Rs. 10,000 and/or performing community service.
  • Overloaded two-wheelers will lead to a fine of Rs. 2,000, along with licence disqualification, and/or 3 months of community service. Meanwhile, more than two passengers on a two-wheeler will be fined Rs. 200 for every extra passenger and/or community service.
  • Juvenile offenders will attract a fine of Rs. 25,000 with three years of prison, cancellation of registration for one year. Juvenile offenders will also be ineligible for getting a driving licence until they are 25 years of age.
  • Offering bribes, will attract twice the fine amount. This will vary, based on the traffic rules being violated.
  • Motorists refusing to share information under orders of the traffic police or disobeying orders will be fined Rs. 2,000.
  • Commercial vehicles without requisite permits will attract a fine of Rs. 10,000 and/or up to six months in prison along with community service.
  • Motorists driving or riding without registration will be fined Rs. 5,000. Subsequent offenders will be fined Rs. 10,000.
