Ducati Monster 797, Multistrada 950 Launched In India; Prices Start At Rs. 7.77 Lakh
The Ducati Monster 797 has a typical design and styling similar to the other bikes in the Ducati range. The typical features are fat forks, brawny looks, bulbous fuel tank, and trellis frame. The sports bike catches your attention whenever you are on the road. There is a flyscreen placed on the headlamp along with a cover for the pillion seat. Both the flyscreen and pillion cowl are of the same colour. The buyer can also accessorise the sports bike by spending an extra amount of Rs. 30,000. The flyscreen works well in terms of wind protection.
The Ducati Scrambler’s engine is the same as the Monster 797’s engine. The L-Twin, 803 cc, 2 desmodromically actuated valve, 2 cylinder petrol engine and a 6-speed gearbox is quite powerful and steady. The sports naked bike weighs 193 kg. The suspension of the bike is very stiff and hence you will feel the bumps, potholes, and ruts while riding it at city speeds. But the Monster 797 can be handled well and you can also cut through heavy traffic as easily as any other 200 cc commuter bike for instance. The Pirelli tyres and alloy wheels make it worth the ride.
The bike has an engine displacement of 803 cc and a maximum horsepower of 72 bhp. The seat looks suspended above the bike’s frame but offers decent comfort to the rider. The seat height is 805 mm and features a thin and low build with sleek contouring. The Monster 797 also has a wide handlebar that gives a sense of control, while enabling riders to read data at an easy glance. The gauge layout accommodates a large LCD as well.
The Monster 797 has several fancy features even after being an entry-level sports bike. The bike does not offer any riding modes, traction control, ride-by-wire, or any fancy electronics. Some of the standout features offered by the sports naked bike are the Bosch ABS unit, LED positioning lamp, a USB socket, LED tail lamp and others. Being specially designed for first-time sports bike buyers, there should have been an LCD and fuel gauge display. But it does provide some bare essentials like Kayaba forks up front, rear mono-shock, front twin discs, and M4.32 callipers from Brembo Monobloc. The bike parts are of premium quality. You can also use the Ducati Multimedia system or DMS to configure Bluetooth through your smartphones and manage the music player and also get notifications for phone calls or messages.
The Monster 797 offers mileage of 18.86 kmpl.
The Ducati engineers have focused on the riding quality of the Monster 797. The kerb weight of 193 kg is evenly distributed for better performance. The low ride height makes the bike comfortable too.. But the bike does offer excellent braking and handling. The engine of the Monster 797 seems quite punchy. The bike’s delivered power is neither as swift to alarm a rider new to a performance bike and nor as slow to spoil the fun quotient. Three digit speeds may be touched conveniently as well. However, the ride can be uncomfortable in heavy traffic as the engine heats up, making daily commuting difficult.
The Monster 797 is good value for money because of its decent performance and premium parts. The sports bike gets almost everything right, making it a perfect pick for new performance bike riders. There is no such problem with the bike but the other competitors offer better performance and more power in some cases. However, the feature list is decent and the bike offers a good chance to be a part of the hallowed Ducati family of motorcycles.
Pros
Cons
The new Monster offers enough performance to keep things entertaining for experienced riders, and for new riders, it offers an easy and accessible platform, which is unintimidating and easy to ride. Overall, it offers dollops of fun, it's quite a fun and likeable package, and the new Monster has evolved in the right direction, with a near-perfect blend of performance, safety net, dynamics and accessibility.
Ducati Monster 797 is available in 4 different colors namely Ducati Red, Dark Stealth, Star White Silk & Star White Silk 797 Plus.
