  • About Electric Bikes

With everything happening in the world right now, electric vehicles are the need of the hour. The environment is becoming more vulnerable, with fossil fuels like petrol getting depleted every other day. In such times, an alternative mode of mobility is highly appreciated and in demand, the most common one being the electric bike. These bikes are easy to use, cheap and come with a lot of extra features that will surely blow your mind. In addition to that, these are good for the environment as they have zero-emission.

Now, if you are thinking that the only benefit to buying an electric bike is that it comes with zero-emission, that is not the case. The prices of fuels like petrol and diesel are increasing every day and show no sign of lessening in the recent future. This further means that you can save a lot on your maintenance and operational costs with an electric bike.

Selecting the Best Electric Bike in India

With the recent hike in demand for such motorcycles, there is no denying that buying one has become even tougher. While you can surely find a number of options in the market, there is still a lot of research and development required in this field. This only goes to say that you should know everything there is to an electric bike before finalising a choice.

    Types of Electric Bikes

The first and most important thing you need to learn is the several different categories of electric bikes you can find in the industry. This will help you determine which one suits your needs the best and allow you to make the right choice. Some of the most commonly purchased kinds of electric bikes include:

    • Hub motor electric bike:

These are essentially the kind of bikes that have a motor built in one of the wheels, helping transmit the required power directly to the wheels.

    • Mid-drive electric bike:

Contrary to the prior type, in this one, the motor is not situated on either one of the wheels. However, the motor is situated in between the two wheels, helping produce the power more uniformly.

    Popular Electric Bikes in India

As mentioned above, there are many electric bike models you can find in the industry. Nevertheless, not all of them are at par. Here mentioned are some of the more notable names in the industry:

    1. BGauss D15
    2. TVS IQube Electric
    3. Ola S1
    4. Revolt RV400
    5. Ather 450X
    6. Simple One
    7. ObenRorr

Things to Know before Buying an Electric Bike

When it comes to buying an electric bike, there are a number of things that you should factor in. this will help you shortlist the models that are perfect for you and fit your requirements aptly. If this is your first time making such an investment, there are some easy steps that you should follow. Further mentioned in this article are some important considerations that you should keep in mind before you finalise your choice.

    The price of the bike:

Much like with any other purchase, considering the overall cost of the bike is absolutely important. The most confusing part of buying an electric bike is making a choice, given the ample number of options you can find here. Having a clear budget in mind can help you easily narrow down your choices and find the best model amongst the limited options you have. However, do not get fooled by the low ex-showroom price.

This basically states the price of the bike inside the showroom. Once you buy it, there are many other additional costs that you have to keep in mind, like RTO, insurance coverage costs and more. While deciding on a budget, make sure that you consider the overall price of the purchase and not just the ex-showroom price. In the current market, a mid-range electric bike will cost you anywhere from 50,000 to 60,000 INR. This can be your reference point for choosing a better budget.

    Riding range:

The second most important thing you must keep in mind is the riding range offered. Consulting other buyers or researching the shortlisted models and comparing their features can help quite a bit in this aspect. However, checking the riding range is very important since that is how much distance you can cover on the bike. For instance, if you plan on travelling long distances, buying an electric bike with a high riding range will ensure that it does not randomly stop in the middle of the journey.

Any low-speed electric bike can offer you a range of about 50 km. On the other hand, a high-speed scooter can do more than 70 to 75 km with a single charge. There are other high-end motorcycles also that come with a much larger battery pack, offering you a riding range of about 150 km. This category mainly depends on the kind of rider you are, the distance you want to travel on a regular basis and the amenities available in your locality.
