A 100 per cent subsidiary of Japanese automaker Honda, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) started operations in India in 1995. The company set up its first manufacturing unit in India in Greater Noida, U.P in 1997 and in 2014, Honda India inaugurated its second plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan. Spread across 150 acres, the Greater Noida facility has the capacity to produce 120,000 units annually. Built across a vast area of 450 acres, Honda’s Tapukara plant is the first car manufacturing facility in Rajasthan and has the capacity to manufacture 120,000 units annually, culminating the overall annual production to 240,000 units.

Honda India’s product portfolio consists of hatchbacks, sedans, MPV and SUVs. Launched in 1998, Honda City was the first model for India which continues to be one of the most popular Honda cars in domestic market. Realising the lack of diesel variants in its product range, the company developed 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine which is currently used in some of the Honda cars in India.
