January 2017 have seen manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Nissan post positive sales figures, while Tata Motors, Mahindra and Honda India have been struggled due to negative growth. Amidst plant shutdowns and the demonetisation effect still lingering, here's how auto manufacturers faired in the previous month.
It has been two months since the Honda City has been selling less than 3,000 units in a month in India. In December, 2016, the company sold 2,898 units. December was also the month where the sales of the Honda City were lesser than that of the Amaze. The total domestic sale of Honda in December, 2016 was 10,071 units as compared to 12,319 units sold in December, 2015, which is a -20.08 per cent decrease.
Royal Enfield sales grew by 42 per cent in December, 2016 while Bajaj Auto saw a decline of 18 per cent in its two-wheeler sales. Till now the impact of demonetisation has been felt across the industry, but somehow Royal Enfield managed to negate the same.
A lot has been said about demonetisation and how it has impacted the India auto sector. We saw the outcome of it in the sales reports for the months of October and November 2016. Now, the numbers for December car sales are out and we have to say this has been quite a challenging month for car manufacturers in the country.
November 2016 was quite an eventful month for the Indian automotive sector. The announcement of demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 in the middle of the festive season did have a considerable impact on sales. While sales weren't as impressive as in October 2016, a lot of automakers did manage to see double digit growth.
In a first, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) sold a record 12.5 lakh two wheelers in the country this festive season. The festive season saw the two wheeler maker's retail sales grow by a healthy 25 per cent with scooters playing a prominent role in the immense growth.
It has been a record breaking festive season for Hero MotoCorp as the Indian two wheeler maker registered over 6 lakh sales for the third consecutive month. The company dispatched a total of 6,63,153 units in October, after retailing 6,16,424 units in August and 6,74,961 units in September this year.
It was a positive festive season for TVS Motor Company as the manufacturer recorded growth in volumes across all vehicle segments. The company recorded sales growth of 12 per cent in October this year retailing a cumulative 3,08,690 units; up from the 2,74,622 units sold in October 2015.
Buoyed by the success its consistent sellers, Bajaj Auto recorded a positive growth this October amidst the festive season. The Pune based two wheeler giant sold 2,12,997 units last month, a five per cent gain compared to the 2,02,042 units sold in October 2015.
