The Passat is Volkswagen's second major launch this year after the Tiguan SUV and shows that the company is not afraid to enter premium segments though the sales in these segments have suffered in India post the introduction of GST. The Passat is based on the same MQB platform as the Tiguan and local assembly of the car has already begun in India.

2017 has been an incredible year for the Indian auto industry and celebrating the best automobiles of the year were the 2018 NDTV CarandBike Awards. The 13th edition of India's most credible auto awards had some extremely capable entries and the jury had a tough time selecting the best from the lot. Nevertheless, the results are out and some well-deserved offerings have taken the coveted trophies home. Showcasing its dominance in the scooter segment, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) claimed the 2018 CNB Scooter of the Year Award for the Cliq.
This year we saw Maruti Suzuki bring in the second generation of the Dzire subcompact sedan and there were a lot of expectations from it. While its predecessor was the highest selling car in its segment ever since it was launched, it was always criticised for the way it looked post the D-pillar. The NDTV Car and Bike Awards have grown to clearly stand out amongst the clutter of auto awards in India, by being the most credible and fair. Now in their thirteenth year, the awards have also been trendsetters, pioneering many categories like the special set of awards exclusively recognising efforts in Communications and Marketing. There are two separate juries of eminent, experienced and multi-skilled jurors to evaluate and judge the two product categories: cars and bikes. And a completely different jury adjudicates on the advertising and marketing categories.
Well, in all honesty, I do have a soft spot for the new Audi R8 V10 +. But for good reason!
